Zoophilia Makes Most People Want To Throw Up

Zoophilia is a recent term of psychology that defines bestiality or the sexual intercourse of a human with an animal. While the documented cases of zoophilia are mostly centered around mentally troubled individuals to be sure, the documentation on the subject is growing. There are many people who actually prefer to have sexual activity with animals. Most people are decidedly disgusted by the idea of zoophilia because it goes against the very idea of sex with animals for more than physical reasons but for ethical reasons as well. It has only been more recently that psychology has termed the act of sex with animals as a legitimate research subject.

The research performed about zoophilia shows that the actual number of people engaged in the acts of sex with animals is less than 3% of the population. The research also shows that most of the people engaged in zoophilia are people living around or near farms where animals are numerous. However sexual fantasies about zoophilia can occur in people who do not wish to experience the actual event. It is just a fantasy that provides an escape from reality as well as cultural restrictions and judgment. The problem with humans and animals having sex is the infections that are transmitted from animals to humans. Some of these diseases are exposed to humans by the contact of semen, vaginal fluids, urine, saliva, feces or blood of animals. For example brucellosis q fever and other types of sicknesses are some afflictions to as well as allergic reactions, trampling, bites or other form of trauma that can occur because an animal does not want the attention.

Zoophilia is against the law in almost every jurisdiction of the world. Other places outlaw the mistreatment of animals without specific mention of animal sexuality; however one can speculate that these acts must be included. Zoophilia is outlawed in Canada, the Netherlands, and thirty one states of the United States, Australia and new Zealand as well as the united kingdom. While most of the other countries of the world fall in between and in some places actually allow zoophilia, the same countries prohibit the pictures or videos of such acts from distributed.

Zoonosis Relates To Animal Disease

For years zoonosis has been feared by many people. It is defined as an infectious disease passed to humans from an animal. These types of diseases have presented problems for both veterinarians and medical doctors. For centuries animals have been a source of medical afflictions that have killed people. Medical science has eradicated many problems that have risen from zoonosis.

The black plague for example has been a disease that was carried by rats and has been cured due to the advent of modern medicine. Bovine tuberculosis is another victory for medical science in the fight against zoonosis. Small pox and influenza have supporting evidence that animals were the cause. The west nile virus appeared in the united states in 2002 and was spread by mosquitoes.  It is hard to be certain which diseases have started out from animals but there is good evidence to support that some of the worst epidemic afflictions of the world did initially come as a result of animals.

Even with the modern advances in medicine there are many cases of zoonosis in the world that still occur. Many modern diseases have started out from animals. Rabies for example is a disease that began as a result of canine bites. These different diseases can be transmitted through various agents such as bacteria, parasites, fungi or through a virus. Bacterial cases such as salmonella or e-coli are rare but prevalent in the world. There are many different types of diseases that have been made into a weapon that have been discovered initially as a zoonosis disease.

Zoonosis diseases can be carried by many different types of animals. What is interesting to note is that some of these hosts are very common. For example pigs, rabbits and cattle are very common types of barnyard animals that can carry a zoonosis disease. It is very important for any ranch to have a veterinarian on hand to perform at least annual checkups on their animal wards. Zoonosis still represents a very real and public health hazard to the world. Many people are at risk for zoonosis diseases due to an ignorance of the facts.

Xerostomia Cotton Mouth Symptoms, Causes, Treatment

Xerostomia is also known as dry mouth and is a medical term describing the mouths lack of saliva. It is a common problem for smokers all over the world. It might not be a disease by itself but it can be indicative of other medical issues. Xerostomia affects a person’s dietary habits because it causes people to drink more liquid, which in turn causes a lapse in appetite. It also causes people to have dental problems because of the lack of saliva. Saliva protects the enamel on teeth and the absence of saliva makes it more likely for people to have cavities.

Xerostomia can be caused by many different things. Some people taking medications will experience dryness of the mouth. For example, cancer patients can experience Xerostomia because of the various treatments they have to undergo. Any radiation focused around the salivary glands can be damaging to them and cause Xerostomia. Some of the medications that people have to take for their many different afflictions; can cause dryness of the mouth. Some people who have recently undergone surgery in the head or neck area may be more prone to this problem due to damage of the nerves that supply sensations to the mouth. Many people with auto immune problems can cause Xerostomia.  Many people will agree that even during a common cold they experience periods of dryness of the mouth. There are many different variables to consider when diagnosing this affliction, but again it must be said that it is not a disease in and of itself but a symptom of another problem.

Most doctors say Xerostomia can be treated by finding out the reasons behind it. Although drinking water does help in overall health of people, for those with Xerostomia, it does not help and in some actually accentuates the problem. Xerostomia is currently being treated with different mouthwashes and other oral hygiene products. Special toothbrushes in conjunction with special toothpaste will sometimes help people with dryness of the mouth. Many people take to chewing gum to help them with this issue. It must be stated that anyone experiencing chronic dry mouth should see a doctor to get the proper medical diagnosis and subsequent treatments.

Xeroderma Pigmentosum Treatment, Symptoms, Causes

Xeroderma Pigmentosum is a medical affliction that occurs in an extremely small percentage of the populace. The genetic makeup of people afflicted with XP causes a host of problems repairing the damage from ultraviolet rays that the sun emanates. Children with Xeroderma Pigmentosum should only be allowed to play at night. For this reason, people afflicted with Xeroderma Pigmentosum are ridiculed as the “people of the night” or vampires. Although this is obviously untrue, people with xp have a very hard life. Almost all cases are extreme cases of XP and they result in people unable to handle sunlight at all. It is a genetic disorder that can result in skin cancer at a young age for those afflicted.

Xeroderma Pigmentosum causes severe sunburn and eye irritation almost immediately upon exposure to sunlight. People afflicted can get blisters and freckling of the skin. The problem many people with XP face is the super dry skin that also comes with the affliction. People with normal skin have the ability to repair the damage from the sun. Unfortunately, people with Xeroderma Pigmentosum lack the capacity to repair the damage caused from ultraviolet light. A person with XP can develop dark spots on the skin. This is a disease that is irreversible. Xeroderma Pigmentosum is an inherited disease. It is progressive as well as additive, meaning that other problems can occur in addition to skin problems.  Xeroderma Pigmentosum can cause deafness, blindness, mental retardation, poor coordination, and stunted growth. One in five people afflicted with XP will have some of the before mentioned problems in addition to the inability to walk in the sun. Most people with undiagnosed Xeroderma Pigmentosum die at an early age with skin cancer.

The goal of all treatments for XP is to protect the patient from sunlight. Dermatologists recommend using sunscreens in conjunction with other sun protection equipment such as umbrellas, hats, or any other UV reducer. There have been some recent advancement in gene therapy, but unfortunately the research is still very theoretical and experimental. Surgery is still a treatment for parts of the skin that show malignant cancer and should be completely removed. Many people with Xeroderma Pigmentosum have many different doctors to consult from eye doctors to dermatologists to neurologists. People with XP should try to keep a positive outlook on life, as hard as that may be.

Xenotransplantation Blends Human and Animals Together

Xenotransplantation is defined as the transplantation, implantation or infusion of non human animal organs or tissue into a human host. Xenotransplantation is a byproduct of the medical fields need for viable organs to use in transplant procedures. Since there is such a shortage of human donors medical science has started experimenting with procedures that involve animal tissue. While most people might find this a little too morbid and have images of “the island of doctor Moreau” flashing through their brains, the idea has merit and is very prevalent among the medical and scientific community.

Xenotransplantation may not be a very popular idea to many people, but for those whose lives have been saved by procedures involving animal transplantation most people would agree that they have no complaint. The early days of xenotransplantation involved experiments with pigs, goats, lambs and monkeys but the body of those experimented on lasted weeks at best. Scientists have always had a problem with the body accepting animal parts. In recent years there have been huge advances in medicine that make it more likely that a body will accept the animal tissue. The other part of using animal parts is the concern of infections. The idea that people can contract a virus as a direct result of using animal parts in transplant experiments also suggests that these diseases could somehow infect the rest of the populace is of major concern to the scientific community. There are some that believe xenotransplantation was the cause of AIDS spreading through the human race.

Xenotransplantation also has other ethical dilemmas involved with it becoming more widespread. Many debates have raged on the element of using animal parts in human transplants. Various people have put forth the idea that by using animals in this manner mixes the physical genes and thereby mixes or creates a new life. The moral issue of course boils down to this; should scientists be playing with this knowledge? On one hand people’s lives are being saved, and on the other hand animals must be sacrificed for these procedures to work. Whichever side of the fence one sits the facts cannot be denied, xenotranplantation works.

Vasovagal Syncope – Causes, Symptoms, Treatment

If you have ever fainted, you’ve experienced vasovagal syncope. Vasovagal syncope occurs when over stimulation of the vagus nerve occurs. This causes the heart-rate to slow and blood pressure to drop, shutting off blood flow to the brain. It happens very quickly and then corrects itself. Temporarily losing consciousness can cause injury or even death.

An oncoming vasovagal syncope can be identified by knowing its symptoms. They can be as simple as lightheadedness and tunnel vision, or they can encompass feelings of nausea, ringing in the ears, incomplete thoughts or statements, feeling hot and beginning to sweat, and physical weakness. Many individuals suffering from vasovagal syncope have reported feeling nervous or having visual disturbances before fainting.

Determining the trigger to a vasovagal syncope is important in understanding how to identify and prevent it from occurring again. Vasovagal syncope can be caused by many things, most often by standing up very quickly, smoking, and unpleasant or painful triggers such as trauma, seeing blood, and high temperatures. Some uncommon causes of vasovagal syncope are hunger, arousal, urination, coughing, and vomiting. Every individual has a unique trigger.

It is important to see a doctor if you are experiencing vasovagal syncope to determine the cause of fainting. Doctors will check to see if the fainting is a heart-related or posture-related before proceeding to treatment. There is no specific treatment for vasovagal syncope, but since it can be dangerous to leave unmanaged, it is important to identify the triggers causing it and treat them.

Depending on the cause of the vasovagal syncope, medications can be administered to control blood pressure, fear and anxiety, and blood vessel constriction. Often times, it is advised to avoid triggers, and to become educated on how to identify an oncoming vasovagal syncope and prevent falling or collapsing to avoid injury.

Vasovagal syncope is a common occurrence, and most people have experienced it before. It is nothing to be afraid of if you are educated on what happens during the vasovagal syncope, and how to identify its triggers. The important thing is to avoid triggers and prevent injury during the onset of it.

Uterine Cancer Symptoms And Treatment

Uterine cancer symptoms are hard to pick out. The uterus is part of a woman’s reproductive system. It is basically a hollow organ in the pelvis. Doctors have still not been able to explain how cancer occurs in one lady versus another. They do know that women with certain risk factors are more likely to develop cancer. Some of these risks include obesity and an abnormal increase in the number of cells lining the uterus. Some of the symptoms associated with uterine cancer are also associated with other diseases that women can be afflicted with. This makes it doubly hard to diagnose cancer. The most important thing any women can do is to keep to a regular schedule of checkups and regulate their health properly because catching cancer early is better than finding out about it later.

The most common uterine cancer symptoms involve bleeding from the vagina. This bleeding from the vagina is not usually associated with cancer because of the natural occurrence of a menstrual cycle. Many women who experience this particular symptom usually think that it is an abnormal part of their cycle and do not check it out. Uterine cancer symptoms are sometimes overlooked because they are similar and often indicative of other problems of the body.

There are other uterine cancer symptoms that can happen and should be immediately brought to a doctor’s attention. Sometimes a milky, watery discharge will occur from the vagina that mimics a sexually transmitted disease. It is important to see a doctor if something like this occurs. Uterine cancer symptoms also include painful urination, just like other sexually transmitted diseases. There could also be pain associated with intercourse. Other uterine cancer symptoms may vary from person to person.

Uterine cancer symptoms are easier to spot as someone gets older. As someone ages, the risk of cancer increases. Uterine cancer symptoms such as bleeding from the vagina should especially be considered carefully, especially if someone has these symptoms after the onset of menopause. Even though bleeding does not necessarily mean that someone has cancer it is important for a doctor to make that determination. Uterine cancer symptoms are very scary occurrences and are often overlooked because of the similarity to other symptoms that surround other medical problems.

Best Shoes for Plantar Fasciitis

Shoes for plantar fasciitis, which is a foot problem mainly concerning the heel and arc of the foot, can be highly painful. Choosing the correct footwear is essential for prevention and healing. For every step that is taken, pressure is being applied to the plantar fascia, which in time can become over stretched and inflamed which causes plantar fasciitis.

When choosing the best shoes for plantar fasciitis, you should find a pair with a good arc support and comfortable heel cushioning. Shoes that do not have these two qualities will add stress to the plantar fascia causing more pain than necessary for the person with the symptom.

It should be kept in mind that anything with a flat heel does not provide adequate support; something that has a slightly moderate heel would be perfect. If you are looking for athletic shoes for plantar fasciitis, you should look and feel for strong well fitted shoes that are comfortable on the heel and supporting to the arc especially when running or jogging.

Athletic shoes for plantar fasciitis are not difficult to find as most athletic shoes are initially made for supporting the foot and taking the impact out of each step. It is a good idea to change your athletic footwear every so often, because once the shoe becomes old and worn the material and support it first had will no longer be present and therefore be no help at all.

Athletic shoes are very popular and not very expensive so, it is possible to keep a good strong pair of shoes for plantar fasciitis. The styles of shoes for plantar fasciitis that should be avoided are such things like flat strappy sandals, as this style offers no support at all. The same rule applies to open toe and open heel shoes, such shoes as slip-ons or flip flops.

None of these would be suitable shoes for plantar fasciitis as they do not provide adequate and sufficient support. Keep in mind that when you are shopping for shoes for plantar fasciitis the most important details are cushioning on the heel and support for the arc.

Sensory Integration Disorder

Sensory Integration Disorder is a neurological disorder, where the brain will fail to recognize the five senses of the human body sight, smell, touch, tastes and sound as well as positions and movements of the body. Sensory Integration Disorder normally begins while still in the womb and usually carries on throughout the life of any person who suffers from the effects of this disorder.

Sensory Integration Disorder Symptoms –

Sensory Integration Disorder is detected in childhood and can also start to develop during childhood. Some of the noticeable symptoms are listed below but are not limited to;

•             Poor self concept

•             Delays in speech and language skills

•             Impulsiveness with no self control

•             A very high or very low activity level in day to day activities

•             Social problems of different types

•             Distracted easily – loss of concentration

•             Over sensitive to sight, sound or touch

•             Under sensitivity to sight, sound or touch

•             Delays in academic achievement

Sensory Integration Disorder Causes- The general cause for this is usually when still in the womb as this is where we all develop and start our lives. Premature birth can be a cause of Sensory Integration Disorder, as well as autism and ADHA (attention- deficit hyperactivity disorder.) in fact these two are said to be the highest cause of SID. Many studies have linked these symptoms to the disorder.

Sensory Integration Disorder Treatment – The best treatment for Sensory Integration Disorder is a sensory integration therapist. These are expert therapist in providing key treatment and sensory input to the brain for treatment. This kind of therapy requires an activity program that is individual to each individual person with Sensory Integration Disorder, otherwise known as a sensory diet.

A sensory diet stimulates the senses with a combination of alerting, calming, and organizing techniques. These are vitally important when treating Sensory Integration Disorder on many different levels because it helps keep it under control. Other methods such as therapeutic body brushing have also been effective in the treatment of SID however; it is not used on infants and small children.

Seborrheic Dermatitis – Causes, Symptoms, Treatment

Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin disorder that usually affects the head, face, and trunk of the body. In infants, it is known as cradle cap. While it is not harmful or a contagious it can be itchy  and uncomfortable or unsightly for the person with it. Seborrheic dermatitis can even lead to permanent hair loss if not properly treated.

Common symptoms of seborrheic dermatitis include flaking of the skin on the scalp, face, behind the ears, and on the trunk of the body. Seborrheic dermatitis can occur anywhere there are enough hair follicles that can become inflamed, including eyebrows, near eyelashes, and in the ear canal. Often time the flakes will be red, but can also range in color from white to yellow to gray. Seborrheic dermatitis can cause the skin to become scaly and itchy. Scratching can damage the hair follicle and lead to hair loss.

The cause of seborrheic dermatitis is not fully understood, but factors that contribute to it have been identified. The malassezia yeast that grows in oily secretions on the skin is believed to play an important role in causing seborrheic dermatitis. Using antifungal treatments has been proven to reduce the amount of malassezia and the inflammation caused by it. Other factors, such as stress, environment, and neurological disorders, like Parkinson’s disease, have also been identified in the outbreak of seborrheic dermatitis.

There is no known treatment to cure seborrheic dermatitis, but there are many ways to control the appearance and discomfort caused by it. For seborrheic dermatitis on the scalp, medicated shampoos specifically for seborrheic dermatitis can be effective in managing it. If a shampoo does not work, or stops working overtime, a doctor can prescribe a shampoo with a higher concentration of medicine in it.

Treatment on the face and scalp can involve over-the-counter anti-itch and anti-fungal creams or prescription-strength creams if the seborrheic dermatitis is severe. Seborrheic dermatitis can be an uncomfortable condition, but can be easily managed with treatment. It is important to not let seborrheic dermatitis continue without care as it can lead to hair loss and infection.

Sebaceous Cyst Treatment, Causes

A sebaceous cyst is a pus filled lesion that is filled with a fatty white semi solid material medially referred to as sebum. The material in the cyst has been likened to cheese or an oily substance. A sebaceous cyst most likely arises from a swollen hair follicle. They are usually found around the neck or around the face, sometimes on the trunk of the body and in rare cases, in the genital area. A sebaceous cyst is a slow growing and painless bump and is characterized as a movable lump under the skin. There are occasions where the cyst will become tender and sore with redness associated with it as well.

A sebaceous cyst can be categorized as an epidermis cyst and can have some unusual symptoms. They are round small bumps that are easy to move around under the skin with fingers. They usually have white or yellow coloring to them although people with dark skin may have a pigmented cyst. A sebaceous cyst can range in size from less than a quarter of an inch to nearly two inches in diameter, most of the time they have a central opening which is a place where the hair follicle should be. A sebaceous cyst may be squeezed to eject thick, cheesy material through the opening where the hair follicle was. However it must be strongly urged not to do this because the risk of infection and scarring becomes higher. It is best to let a dermatologist handle the removal of the cyst.

A sebaceous cyst can easily become infected and when it occurs, can include a thick yellowish material that drains from the cyst. This material is associated with a foul odor and is coupled by redness, swelling and tenderness where the cyst is. Sometimes a sebaceous cyst is misdiagnosed because there are small bumps that could look like a cyst when in actuality it is something different. It is important to see a doctor to diagnose a sebaceous cyst even though they are not harmful. If a cyst grows rapidly, ruptures or becomes painful or perhaps grows in a spot that is often or constantly irritated, a doctor should be consulted.

Pseudotumor Cerebri Causes Headaches?

Pseudotumor cerebri is an uncommon medical issue that causes headaches. It has often been referred to as a “false brain tumor”. The disorder is very common in women and has a variety of symptoms that causes people afflicted to have very uncomfortable pain. The symptom includes nausea, vomiting, and sounds within the head. They closely mimic what happens to someone who has a brain tumor and often leads to the misdiagnoses of the disorder.  The most common reason this particular disorder occurs is attributed to high pressure within the skull as a result of poor absorption of cerebral-spinal fluid. Pseudotumor cerebri can cause a loss of vision in extreme cases that have not been treated.

Pseudotumor cerebri can be treated with some types of medication to reduce the buildup of cerebral fluid and to relieve the pressure. Many times the causes of pseudotumor cerebri are intensified by obesity and certain medications. People who are afflicted with pseudotumor cerebri will find that by losing weight they relieve some of the pressures and symptoms.  It is important for people suspecting they might have a case of pseudotumor cerebri should have a thorough medical examination with a full barrage of tests to confirm the disorder. Pseudotumor cerebri may require a treatment called therapeutic shunting, which involves surgically inserting a tube to drain out cerebral fluid.

Pseudotumor cerebri can be a recurring medical condition. There is a facility that conducts research on disorders of the brain, however a cure for this disorder is not available. The actual cause of pseudotumor cerebri is still unknown at this time. It is believed that some of the more possible causes that could lead to this disorder include an excess of vitamin a, chronic kidney disease, sleep apnea, a defect in cerebral spinal fluid, an increase in the cerebral fluids, behcet’s disease, or systemic lupus erythematosus. Either way, anyone who is experiencing chronic headaches or having vision problems should get a full barrage of tests to figure out the problem. The last thing anyone should do is to wait if experiencing symptoms, because it might be a brain tumor or it could be a fake tumor.

Protopic: An Ointment?

Protopic is also known as tacrolimus topical and is used by patients who have eczema. Eczema is a disease that causes dry itchy skin and sometimes develops into red scaly rashes. Protopic is a medication that is used by patients who cannot use other types of medications for their condition for whatever the reason may be. Protopic is a class of medication called topical calineurin inhibitors and they work by stopping the immune system from producing the substances that cause eczema. This product does help most people afflicted with eczema.

Protopic helps people with eczema by reducing the itch that occurs as a result of the disease. It does have a prescribed method of dosage. Protopic should be applied twice a day to an affected area. There are different methods to help remind people to apply tacrolimus ointment. Mostly these tips are given to help people to use protopic at the same time every day. This product also comes in different forms for use. Most commonly this prescription is given in an ointment form but can come in a pill or capsule. If someone forgets to take a dose they should apply it as soon as remembered. However it is warned that people should not apply extra to make up for a missed time.

Protopic also has many different directions that coincide with its use. People should wash their hands with soap and water before applying protopic. The skin in the affected area should be dried before application. There are some special precautions before use of this ointment and they include alerting a doctor if someone has an allergic reaction. It should always be fully disclosed to the doctor or pharmacist about any other medications that are being taken in conjunction with protopic. Having kidney disease might affect the use of this drug. Women who are pregnant or planning to be pregnant should tell a doctor before starting to use this medicine. Alcoholic beverages might cause some concern to someone who is using this product. The skin or face might become flushed or red and feel hot if drinking alcohol and using protopic.

Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome Treatment And Symptoms

Polycystic ovarian syndrome is the most common female disorders affecting women of reproductive age. It is the leading cause of women’s inability to have children. The results of polycystic ovarian syndrome are obesity irregular menstruation, excessive acne, and excess development of male hormones. The name polycystic ovarian syndrome comes from the appearance of ovaries that are enlarged and containing a number of small cysts.

Polycystic ovarian syndrome causes women to have excessive hair growth on their faces. The self esteem issues caused by this disease are many. The most common symptom of this disorder is the menstrual abnormality. In some cases a woman’s menstrual cycle can last longer than a month. Because of the infrequent or prolonged menstrual periods women with polycystic ovarian syndrome also feel like they are less of a woman. The weight gain and other hormonal swings also affect their moods. Many women who have polycystic ovarian syndrome are understandably depressed because they may never be able to have children. Often they have cycles of depression cycled with excessive aggressiveness caused by the excess of male hormones in their system. The excess of androgen in their bodies also cause physical differences to appear such as extra body hair and severe acne. Some cases of polycystic ovarian syndrome even report male-pattern baldness. The physical signs vary with ethnicity.

It is still unknown why polycystic ovarian syndrome occurs in some women. Doctors have speculated that an excess of insulin might be a factor. Other factors such as a low white blood cell count coupled with heredity might play roles in the onset of polycystic ovarian syndrome. New research has shown that excessive exposure to male hormones in a fetus could permanently prevent normal genes from working properly. This may explain male pattern fat distribution which is a reason for the obesity of some women with PCOS. Either way women who experience abnormal menstruation cycles should report to their doctor. Unfortunately there are no specific tests to diagnose this problem. The process of finding out about if a woman has PCOS is one of exclusion. Doctors will factor a woman’s medical history as well as perform a thorough medical examination.

Planters Fasciitis – Symptoms, Causes, Treatment

Planters fasciitis is a type of support aid that you would use if you were to have plantar fasciitis. This is a very painful foot problem that if you were to suffer this you would most certainly benefit from using planters fasciitis support aid. Planters fasciitis the family name “so to speak” because the meaning is all to do with the heel and the number of injuries surrounding it.

Most athletes or someone who is maybe as active as an athlete would more than likely have already experienced some kind of planters fasciitis, and so will be aware as to how painful it is. One of the most common heel problems is plantar fasciitis which is an irritation and inflammation on and around the heel of the foot.

Planters fasciitis night splints are a very good way of helping sooth and ease the pain in the foot, as the pain would be at its worst first thing in the morning after the foot has been rested without movement for several hours. Night splints come in the form of a sock with a difference; it looks like a straight jacket for the foot. The night splint has an attachment off material at the toe end and a fastening device at the front part above the ankle. This works by pulling the toes up as if they were trying to reach your leg, which results in the arc of the foot being stretched. With this the night splint is also thermal which can aid and assist the recovery of planters fasciitis.

This type of injury is actually more common in men and women that are between the ages of 35 – 55, because planters fasciitis has to do with inflammation so, you would probably be given some anti inflammatory tablets. The best thing you can do is rest, rest and more rest, the less pressure and weight applied the less the pain will be. You can also help to reduce inflammation by applying ice to the affected area about twice a day for a length of no less than 15 – 20 minutes per time.

Plantar Fasciitis – Symptoms, Causes, Treatment

Plantar fasciitis is a foot infection that causes irritation and swelling. The thick tissue that connects the heal bone to the toes is called the plantar fascia, when this tissue is over stretched or over used it can become inflamed making it very painful to walk or stand.

 Plantar fasciitis symptoms –

The most common symptom is the feeling of pain in the heal which usually stats off in the morning, as the day goes on this pain may ease off and become a dull ache, by the time evening arrives it could almost be gone from resting. Other symptoms include a tenderness of the heal maybe some extent of swelling and redness around the bottom of the foot.

Plantar fasciitis causes –

Plantar fasciitis is commonly thought of being caused by heel spur; however, research has shown that this is not the case at all. Heel spur has shown up on people with or without it. Other causes of plantar fasciitis are foot arch problems such as flat foot and high arch, obesity or sudden weight gain could also be responsible. In addition, if you are a long distance runner or something of the same nature causes constant loading and unloading of weight on the foot. There is a chance that shoes that have a sort sole or a low arch could play a role in plantar fasciitis.

Plantar fasciitis treatment-

Treatment for plantar fasciitis can take anything from a couple of months to two years before full recovery, for most cases the average length of time usually is about 9 months. The initial treatment for plantar fasciitis would consist of heel stretching exercises along with anti-inflammatory tablets. Several remedies can be used to help ease the pain such as applying ice to the affected area at least twice a day for around 15 minutes a time. You can also try wearing orthopedic support and proper fitting shoes. Night splints are a great help in stretching the affected area, as well as resting as much as you possibly can. You can also use some kind of painkiller to take the edge out of the pain, ibuprofen will help with the swelling, and paracetomol usually helps in decreases the pain.

Plantar Fascia – Symptoms, Causes, Treatment

Plantar fascia (plantar aponueurosis) is a strong layer of white tissue that connects the heel of the foot to the toes; it is divided into three portions, central, lateral, and medial. Problems with this can involve pain and may require medical treatment.

Plantar fascia- the central portion- this is the thickest portion that narrows towards the ankle direction and is thinner as it separates to each individual toe. This is what is responsible for the arc of the foot; this is what absorbs the shock of running.

Repetitive running can lead to what is called a spur; this is very painful especially in the morning when the plantar fascia has been rested. This causes it to swell up and becomes what is known as inflammation. Once the plantar fascia has been given the chance to limber up and stretch the swelling usually reduces which also reduces the amount of pain you will feel, as the day goes on the pain should reduce itself to something of a dull ache.

The plantar fascia is a ligament which expands and shrinks constantly, it is one of the very unique pats of the human anatomy, which should be taken care of and not at all taken for granted. Without this magnificent ligament we would most certainly have issues with our balance and stance.

If the plantar fascia does become damaged either from a traumatic impact to the foot or through a constant phase of running or jogging the best thing you can do for a good recovery from plantar fascia inflammation is to rest the foot as much as possible. You can take paracetomol for any pain you feel and ibuprofen can help with inflammation. The pain that you will feel if you were to walk or try to run would be tremendously high, so it is in your best interest not to. However if you do feel the need to stretch your legs and you can bare the pain then you should at the very least use the aid of a walking stick this will help by keeping extra or additional weight of the injured foot.

Perioral Dermatitis Symptoms, Treatment, Causes

Perioral dermatitis is an ugly disease and skin problem. It mostly affects women under the age of 50. Sometimes men and children are affected. The literal translation for perioral dermatitis is “mouth red- skin”. This term is accurate for the problem. In addition to the redness that occurs around the mouth, there are also bumps that pop up as well. Sometimes these bumps are the most obvious problem rather than the redness and looks like a bad case of acne. However this disease is definitely not acne. The small red bumps or pus bumps have mild peeling that occurs with the disorder. What seems to be a more pronounced characteristic is that of pain accompanying the bumps. Perioral dermatitis is also completely different from acne because of the difference in duration. Most people can pop a zit and it goes away within a day or two. If not treated this disease may last for months or even years. Even when treated the disorder can recur several times, usually treatment does stop it from coming back though so it is good news for someone who has this disease.

The cause of perioral dermatitis is unknown at this time. Some dermatologists believe that it is a variation on a different disease, but has not been proven at this time. The treatments for perioral dermatitis are creams and medications. A doctor or dermatologist will use topical medications such as metronidazole, erythomycin, benzoyl peroxide, tacrolimus, clindamycin or pimecrolimus to treat the bumps. It is important to note that skin creams containing steroids should not be used to treat this disorder. In more severe cases antibiotics are prescribed to help combat perioral dermatitis.

Perioral dermatitis has no guaranteed way to prevent its occurrence. A dermatologist might have some suggestions about which creams to use and may advise against the use of certain toothpastes but unfortunately there is no real preventative measure that can be employed against the income of perioral dermatitis

Perioral dermatitis does not need any special tests to diagnose if someone has the disorder or not. Occasionally blood tests will eliminate other conditions that can look similar.

Ketogenic Diet Review | Does It Work?

If your child has epilepsy, putting them on the ketogenic diet could reduce seizures and save their life. It has been proven by doctors to work well with seizures that are difficult to control. In fact, some children are able to stop taking their anti-seizure medications. The ketogenic diet requires a lot of dedication, and supervision by a doctor. About two-thirds of individuals that try the ketogenic diet achieve success in reducing or eliminating seizures.

The ketogenic diet is high in fat and low in carbohydrates, causing the body to burn fat for energy. This creates kytones which replace glucose as a fuel source. This is known as kytosis, and an individual in this state has a lessened chance of having an epileptic seizure. The ketogenic diet is modeled after fasting, as the body undergoes kytosis from burning fat cells for fuel during that process. Physicians at the beginning of the 20th century noticed that epileptic seizures were greatly decreased in patients that were water fasting.

The ketogenic diet was widely used before pills were made available to treat epileptic seizures. Unfortunately prescription medications do not work 100 percent of the time, and other options must be sought. The Ketogenic diet has a good success rate, but is not for everyone. Switching to a ketogenic diet must be done with medical supervision as it can cause complications, have an adverse effect, or may need to be finely tuned for greater effect. The ketogenic diet does not work for everyone, so trying it without a doctor’s advice can cause vitamin and mineral deficiencies, irregular menstruation, and decreased bone density.

The ketogenic diet definitely has something great to offer if you or your child has epileptic seizures that are uncontrollable, frequent, or life threatening. It is not a diet for just anybody and should be undertaken with great care and oversight from a physician. It may be time to try something different if you have unsuccessfully tried two or more seizure medications or want to lead a pill-free lifestyle. The ketogenic diet could change your life, so ask your doctor about it.

Impetigo Is A Common Skin Infection

Impetigo is a contagious skin infection. It produces blisters and sores around the face, neck, hands and in children around the diaper area. It is one of the most common infections among kids. Impetigo is caused by one of two types of bacteria; either staphylococcus aureus or a streptococcus. Kids who have been afflicted with other skin disorders such as eczema, poison ivy or insect bites will be more susceptible to impetigo. This infection is highly contagious and can spread to other parts of the body very easily. It is very common for a young child to itch the infected spot and then touch other parts of their body.

The signs and symptoms for impetigo can be found anywhere on the body but commonly occurs around the nose and mouth, hands and forearms. There are two types of impetigo infections. Large blisters are medically referred to as bullous impetigo. The other type of symptom is a crusted form of impetigo and is medically referred to as non-bullous impetigo. The crusted form is the most common. They form after a blister from the infection has burst open leaving small wet patches of red skin that leaks fluid. The crust is a tan or yellowish color that covers the affected area. Blisters caused by the infection are nearly always caused by staphylococcus aureus. They blisters are at first clear and then get cloudy. They stay intact for a long time without bursting. Since the infection is so contagious, it is important to be careful with all types of materials that come in contact with infected skin.

Impetigo can be treated with an antibiotic ointment if it affects a small area of the skin. If the infection spread however it might be a little hard to treat with creams. Impetigo might have to be treated with an antibiotic pill or liquid if the infection has spread and in some cases if the prescribed ointment does not work. Once antibiotic treatment begins impetigo should start to be healed within a few days. It is important to make sure that anyone who has been given a prescription to counter the effects of the infection should take only the prescribed dosage. If not, the possibility of a deeper and more serious infection could happen.

Gullian Barre Syndrome Symptoms, Treatment

Gullian barre syndrome is a highly serious disease that happens when the immune system attacks the nervous system by mistake. This leads to nerve inflammation that causes bone inflammation as a result.

Gullian barre syndrome- symptoms

Gullian barre syndrome gets stronger very quickly, meaning the weakness in the bone takes only a few hours to a few days. Also included in the symptoms:

  • Loss off reflexes
  • Low blood pressure
  • Weakness in the legs then arms or both at the same time
  • Numbness
  • Uncoordinated movement

Emergency symptoms, which need immediate medical advice:

  • stopped breathing
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Difficulty taking a deep breath
  • Fainting
  • Drooling
  • Dizziness
  • Paralysis affects both sides of the body, and usually starts in the legs and quickly works its way up.

Gullian barre syndrome – causes

It is unknown what it is that triggers gullian barre syndrome but it is common in most people around the age of 50, will usually follow some other infection and any signs of it have usually disappeared at the time of diagnosis. Gullian barre syndrome may also come from aids, mononucleosis, and herpes simplex. It has been known to follow Hodgkin’s disease also.

Gullian barre syndrome – treatment

There are treatments available to assist in reducing the complications and symptoms of gullian barre syndrome, antibodies are one option to help treat complications and maybe reduce the symptoms. If gullian barre syndrome sufferer were in a critical stage the patient would need to go to the hospital as soon as possible.

This would be because they would need help from breathing apparatus. Another method that is used to remove antibodies from the blood is called plasmapheresis. This involves taking blood from the body putting it through a filter type machine that removes the antibodies and then pumps it back into your body.

In addition, an option is to block the antibodies using immunoglobulin therapy, the immunoglobulin are added to the body in large doses to block the antibodies that are causing the inflation. Most people survive from gullian barre syndrome; the recovery period however can take anything from a few weeks to a few years.

That causes individuals suffering from Elhers-Danlos syndrome to have many problems ranging from abnormally flexible joints to extremely fragile skin.

There is no cure for Elhers-Danlos syndrome, and the prognosis depends on the type of EDS an individual has. There are more than ten documented types of Elhers-Danlos syndrome, but hypermobility and classical type are the most commonly seen. In fact, the other types are so rare that for many, less than 100 cases have been reported for each.

Hypermobility is marked by extreme flexibility of joints. Classic type of Elhers-Danlos syndrome is marked by extremely elastic skin that can be easily injured or damaged. Since Elhers-Danlos syndrome can range in severity, many individuals suffering form it must live each day around their disorder.

In the more serious types of Elhers-Danlos syndrome, individuals must take care to not receive injury, even the slightest, as it could lead to ruptured skin, blood vessels, and organs. Some women with Elhers-Danlos syndrome are unable to have children and must take great care to not get pregnant.

Most sufferers from Elhers-Danlos syndrome must deal with psychological trauma as well, since they often feel judged for their abnormal appearance or cautious approach to life. Diverticulitis Causes Stomach Pains

Diverticulitis is a swelling of a part of the intestinal wall. The inflammation is called a diverticulum and forms a small pouch usually found in the large intestine. Diverticulitis is diagnosed when the actual presence of the pouches are found. The pouches develop over time and can develop in any part of the intestinal track. However they are most commonly found in the sigmoid colon, or for most people who do not understand medical jargon, the lowest part of the colon. Diverticulitis is most common in people over the age of 40. The pouches that form are thought to develop from abnormal pressure in the colon. Most people do not understand how this pressure is built but essentially it is from defects in the blood vessels surrounding the colon wall.

Diverticulitis is very common. It is found in over half the population of people over age 60, but only a few percentages actually develop a full blown case of diverticulitis. Many people on a low fiber diet will experience a higher risk of inflammation. People who have diverticulitis experience abdominal pain, usually in the left lower abdomen, chills, fever, nausea, vomiting and extreme weight loss if untreated. If someone is experiencing these symptoms it is important to see a doctor right away to run tests such as abdominal palpation, ct scans or a count of white blood cells. It is essential for anyone having the listed symptoms to get tested by a medical professional.

Diverticulitis is treated with prescription antibiotics. However, if the problem has persisted and gone for too long without treatment, then surgery could be necessary. Usually surgery is performed if there have been abscesses that formed have formed as a result. Surgery is also required if there are holes in the colon which is part of the symptoms. If a fistula occurs, which is a connection that has inter connectedly formed abnormally to different parts of the colon, then surgery becomes necessary as well.  Diverticulitis has the potential of being fatal without treatment. Diverticulitis is usually a very mild condition that responds well to treatment if caught early.

Dermatome and Nerves

A dermatome is an anatomical term that refers to a single nerve causing sensation on the skin. It is a point on the skin that will provide the feeling for that part of the body. Another way to think of a dermatome is basically an area of the skin that connects to the spinal column to provide sensory data to the brain. In the body there are thirty nerves, and from there they are sub grouped and named to correspond to different parts of the spine. Dermatome groups relay sensations, including pain sensations, from different regions of the skin to the brain.

Dermatome groups are lumped together by different parts of the body. They have different shapes and are supplied by a different spinal nerve. There are eight cervical nerves, twelve thoracic nerves, five lumbar nerves and five sacral nerves. They are shaped differently as well. For example along the abdomen a dermatome group is stacked together like discs and along the leg they run longitudinally along the limbs. Although dermatome groups are similar from person to person, the precise areas that these nerves end up at are quite unique for each individual. The pattern in each person is as unique as a fingerprint.

Knowledge of dermatome placement is helpful for neurologists in finding damage to the spine. Pain is a symptom of something being wrong in the body, and pain in a dermatome means that there is an underlying problem. The type of pain felt helps to determine what ailment is afflicting someone. For example an aching pain in an area indicates a lack of oxygen to the nerve and also could include inflammation of the affected area. Dermatome pain that is not accompanied by heat, as would usually be found in an infection, is usually indicative of another type of problem. For example a compressed spinal nerve will also have a loss of motor skills but might not have any effect on the skin. A herpes shingle on the other hand will have painful areas of the dermatome.  Either way, it takes years of education to study these nerve endings.

Dermatite and Skin Care

Dermatite is a medical term that describes a generic inflammation of the skin. There are different types of dermatite including seborrheic and atopic dermatite which is also known as eczema. There are many forms of this disorder and each one has different signs and symptoms. It most commonly causes swollen red and itchy skin. It is a common condition that is not life threatening, but is extremely uncomfortable. Dermatite afflicts many people and has many different treatments.

Dermatite can appear as a rash that results from an allergic reaction to a substance such as poison ivy. Many people experience a chronic itchiness that is localized to certain areas of the skin. Dermatite can also dry out the scalp and face often causing dandruff in some people who are afflicted. For those who get a bumpy rash around the mouth this too could be a symptom. There are other symptoms that mimic dermatite so it is important to see a doctor or health care provider to diagnose any specific problem. The most distinct signs of this disorder are redness, swelling, itching or skin lesions. Eczema is a form of this disorder and the signs are red flaky, itchy skin and it tends to come and go. It is important to note that not all symptoms that occur like this are going to be diagnosed as dermatite.

Dermatite has different treatment variations. There are creams, wet compresses and other types of applications that could be used to counter this disorder. The most obvious thing one can do is to avoid things that will irritate the skin such as insulation or wool if people display an allergic reaction to such things. There are also effective prescription medicines that have proven to combat dermatite. The most important thing anyone can do is to avoid scratching the area that is aggravated. Most of the time people can cover the affected area and apply the creams and lotions prescribed to avoid this action. Dermatite may be a common affliction for many people but it does not remove the comfort ability associated with it. It is important that people seek medical attention for any kind of chronic rash or itchiness that lasts longer than a few days.
