Medicated Tips on How to Get Rid of Diarrhea:

Diarrhea medication:  Though getting rid of diarrhea may just be a timely matter that takes a few days, sometimes we don’t have a few days to lay low, miss work and just stay close to a bathroom.  Now, if you’ve tried the tips for how to get rid of diarrhea the natural way, but they haven’t been working well enough, it may be time to get some over the counter medications for indigestion, soar stomach and diarrhea.  Medications like Pepto-Bismol, Tums and Imodium can be very helfpul. These will usually coat the stomach nicely and give you fast relief.

Visit the doctor:  Another option to help get rid of your diarrhea is to visit your doctor.  They may be able to tell you exactly why you’re experiencing it in the first place and give you prevention tips for the future, as well as medication to cure it now.

Causes of Diarrhea and Stomach Pain After Eating

Diarrhea and Stomach Pain After Eating

It is not uncommon for someone to experience diarrhea and stomach pain after eating at some point in time.  Usually this is not something to worry about but there are times when the symptoms are reason for concern.

Non-chronic explanations include: • Food Poisoning • Food Allergy • Stomach Flu • Indigestion

Let’s take a closer look at each of these as an explanation of diarrhea after eating or stomach pain after eating.   Food Poisoning – When a person eats food or drinks water that has been infected by bacteria, parasites or toxins they can develop food poisoning.  Usually this food or water poisoning is due to the bacteria Staphylococcus or E-Coli.  Typically symptoms occur within two to six hours of ingestion.  Fever, headaches, vomiting and weakness often also follow.

Food Allergy – Approximately four percent of the adult population in the US is affected by food allergies.  When foods are mistaken as harmful by the body’s immune system the body creates a defense against them.  In producing histamines to fight off these mistaken enemies inflammation, swelling and pain can be caused in the intestines or stomach.

Stomach Flu – We have all experienced this.  The stomach flu usually lasts about 24 hours and causes nausea, vomiting and diarrhea.  Some people also run a fever.

Indigestion – There are certain foods that just set off indigestion in some individuals.  Gas pains are often a part of the symptoms and sometimes diarrhea follows.

All of these symptoms should be taken seriously.  Anytime a person’s fever reaches 100 degrees, a doctor should be consulted.  Anytime the symptoms persist for more than 24 hours, at the least a trip to a drop in health facility is warranted.

There are also chronic diagnoses for stomach pain after eating or diarrhea after eating.

These include: • Crohn’s Disease • Irritable Bowel Syndrome • Ulcers

Crohn’s Disease – With Crohn’s Disease patients can have long periods of time when they have no symptoms at all.  Then they have a flare up then several symptoms accompany the disease other than diarrhea and stomach pain.  Those include fever, rectal bleeding, weight loss, and a feeling of fullness.  Over the long-haul other symptoms develop and surgery is often required.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome – IBS is fairly common and causes bloating, gas, diarrhea, cramping and stomach pain.  There is no cure for the syndrome.  It can however be controlled by watching what is eaten and by making lifestyle changes.  The disease varies from person-to-person; some are homebound to those who occasionally have a bout with the symptoms.

Ulcers – These are painful sores in the stomach or the small intestine.  It is extremely serious if these ulcers perforate and surgery is often required.  Although doctors are not sure what causes ulcers, they know the ulcer is the end result.  When diagnosed, ulcers are usually controlled by bland diets.

Acute causes of stomach pain after eating or diarrhea after eating includes diseased gall bladder or appendicitis.  This is usually intense, quick moving and requires a trip to the emergency room.

What Are The Symptoms Of GERD

Symptoms Of GERD

GERD is a shorthand moniker for gastroesophageal reflux disease, and it is sometimes referred to as gastric reflux disease or acid reflux disease in commercials or by your doctors. It is actually a chronic symptom. It is not a disease in and of itself. It is related to mucosal damage that is the result of stomach acid shooting up from the bowels into the esophagus. One of the most common symptoms is heartburn.

GERD is facilitated by alterations in the wall between the stomach and the esophagus, and there is an unusual loosening of the lower esophageal sphincter, and this usually holds the top part of the stomach closed. Inhibited expulsion of gastric reflux through the esophagus, or a hiatal hernia, are also responsible. These alterations can be lifelong or temporary.

Yet another type of GERD is LPR or EERD. LPR most commonly leads to heartburn, and it is often called silent reflux.

Long-term acid reflux disease can lead to GERD, and most people with GERD do get heartburn, but not everyone. The main symptoms of GERD that are the most common for sufferers include heartburn, regurgitating, and nausea.

Heart is just a burning pain right in the center of the chest. It can start all the way up at the top of the abdomen or it can go up into the neck. It is not localized in one place. It can move around. Symptoms of GERD also include a sharp, pressured feeling and not just burning. This kind of pain can feel like heart pain. The pain can even go around to the back. Most heartburn is after a meal.

Other symptoms of GERD include hiatal hernia, laryngitis, nausea, sore throat, dry cough, and asthma, halitosis, and earache. The symptoms are various and diverse, and there is not one typical symptom of GERD.

A specialized test for hiatal hernia may be run. Chest x-rays will be ordered.

Some other symptoms of GERD include vomiting, coughing, and breathing problems. Chest pain and discomfort are also pretty serious. If you experience significant weight loss, have trouble sleeping, and have a failure to thrive, it may be time to call your doctor.

For people that get temporary heartburn, it is usually not a big event or a cause for concern, but for people that get it consistently, chronically, and day after day, it could be time to call a doctor. You could have a more serious condition than GERD.

Some of the most common symptoms of GERD include burning sensations in the mouth, chest pain, trouble with swallowing, dry cough, hoarseness in the throat, and regurgitation of food or a sour little liquid lump feeling in your throat. These symptoms are the most common ones for the condition, but, as the moniker goes, “heartburn”, is just what it sounds like. You could feel a burn in the center of the chest. That’s when you know you have GERD because that’s the telltale symptom, and if you get this everyday, then you are a GERD patient.

How to Get Rid of a Cold Fast

How to Get Rid of a Cold Fast

Anyone who has ever had a cold has wondered how to get rid of a cold fast. The truth is that as soon as you feel symptoms, you can get started working to feel healthy again. A cold is caused by a virus, and few things will help the root cause. But if you attack the symptoms correctly while helping your immune system stay strong, you’ll have a good chance of getting rid of the virus faster. In this article, you’ll learn the answer to that elusive question: how to get rid of a cold fast!

Blow Your Nose: The first and most important thing that you can do right away is to start controlling your mucous output. Having a lot of phlegm and nasal mucous not only makes you feel worse, it actually contributes to a longer illness. If you really want to know how to get rid of a cold fast, start here. At the first sign of trouble, find two to three boxes of soft nasal tissue. The best brands have aloe to reduce irritation. On the first day of your illness, blow your nose every time you think of it until it is clear. Any time you feel congested, blow again. Repeat the process as often as you can.

Take Vitamin C: You can stop a cold in its tracks by boosting your autoimmune reaction with vitamin C. Vitamin C is probably the most powerful natural weapon in your arsenal against the common cold. The most effective way to absorb  vitamin C is by eating lots of citrus fruits, such as oranges. You can kill two birds with one stone by drinking plenty of orange juice, which will provide soothing relief to the sore throat that might be associated with your cold. While you have a cold, you should try to get natural vitamin C from food or juice with every meal, or use a vitamin C supplement as directed.

Use Menthol and Peppermint: This may seem simple, but when you look closely at how to get rid of a cold fast, you’ll see that most solutions are day-to-day things you must do routinely. A natural, menthol-based cough drop will loosen and thin the mucous in your nasal passages. Peppermint, taken in tea or by aromatherapy, will have a similar affect. Other herbs that might help include sage, ginger, and cinnamon. When your nasal passages are clear, you’ll be less infectious and feel better, which will help your body work the way it should.

Drink Plenty of Water: Water is the key to a well-functioning body. During an infection, your body needs even more water to flush out systems and maintain its natural balance. Most people don’t drink enough water when they’re healthy, so double up on water and other natural fluids when you feel ill. This will also help you repel the influence of airborne irritants that might make your cold worse, such as pollen, pet dander, and smoke.

Paranoid Schizophrenia Symptoms

Paranoid Schizophrenia Symptoms

Changing from person to person, paranoid schizophrenia symptoms are never the same. Experts and researchers say that those people with paranoid schizophrenia have delusions, disorganized speech, auditory hallucinations, social withdrawal and suicidal thoughts. These symptoms can be either positive or negative. Positive symptoms would be hallucinations or delusions simply because they are added onto the character of the person. On the flip side, negative symptoms are when characteristics are decreased, meaning more subtle symptoms. But they, along with the positive symptoms, are noticeable.

When referring to the symptom of delusion, it means the individual believes something is true when it is completely false. This could be dangerous, because the paranoid schizophrenic sufferer can slowly become another person and this normally leads to much worse things. There are different types of delusions including delusions of grandeur (where the sufferer thinks he or she is someone famous), delusions of persecution (falsely believing that someone is trying to hurt the person), delusions of reference (believing an important event not related to the person has special significance) and delusions of control (control manipulated by some unknown force).

Next in line of paranoid schizophrenia symptoms there is disorganized speech. With this speech impairment, topics can change very fast with the affected person. When a person has disorganized speech, topics change quickly for no reason and are completely unconnected to the original thought or word, and often irrational or bizarre in nature. There are also situations where the individual would make up words, repeat the same word phrase or sentence several times in a row and even using rhyming words together for no reason.

Another symptom common to sufferers of paranoid schizophrenia is auditory hallucination. Similar to delusions, the auditory hallucinations are voices in the head talking to the person or to each other. Sometimes the voices will tell the sufferer to do things he or she would not normally do. These auditory hallucinations are dangerous because these voices can sound very real.

Suicidal thoughts are pretty much self explanatory. When a person has these thoughts, he or she believes that suicide is the only option to escape problems. There are usually local suicide hotlines that people can call if they start to feel suicidal. If someone is feeling or acting suicidal, then that person needs help immediately.

Diagnosing schizophrenia is not done through lab tests or physicals. The condition is usually determined by a psychiatrist based on clinical symptoms. Physical testing however can rule out other conditions including seizure disorders, thyroid dysfunction, brain tumors, metabolic disorders or even street drug use. Researchers are currently attempting to develop a physical test (diagnostics) that could test the blood for schizophrenia, while also offering smaller tests such as eye tracking, smell tests and brain imaging.

Paranoid schizophrenia symptoms usually exist in a combination of positive, negative and cognitive thoughts, problems with concentration or following instructions, difficulty completing tasks and memory problems.

Only a psychiatrist can make a diagnosis of schizophrenia and start a treatment program. It is recommended that if a person experiences some of these symptoms, that he or she take an on-line screening test for identification of early symptoms.

Blood In Urine – What Does It Mean

Blood In Urine

Blood in urine does not necessarily mean something dire is going on inside your body, but it can be a warning sign that needs to be heeded.  Discolored urine is not always cause for alarm.  Some things you eat or drink may be the cause.  Things like rhubarb, various berries, beets, foods or drinks containing food colors can cause pinkish, brown or orange tinted urine.  The medical terminology for this ailment is hematuria.  Hematuria, in and of itself, is a symptom, not a disease.  There are many various causes, symptoms and treatments for this problem, some being simple and some not so simple.  Below you will find a few causes and treatments for this symptom:

Causes for blood in urine:

Microscopic amounts of blood in urine is usually a symptom of upper urinary tract problems, as in the bladder, urethra or ureters.

If under 40 years of age, kidney stones or urinary tract infections are probably the main cause.

This symptom can occur in older people also.  However, in those over 40, the most common causes for hematuria are cancers of the bladder, prostate or kidney.

Here are few causes for blood in urine that you may be more familiar with:  Urinary tract blockage – mainly in the urethra.  This blockage may be caused by kidney stones, a tumor, or a stricture (narrowing of the urethra opening).   Forms of kidney disease, a blood disorder, or injury to the upper or lower urinary tract can cause blood in the urine.   Viral infections, kidney inflammation, and other sources may also contribute to this symptom.  Diabetes, hypertension and some other chronic diseases also affect the kidneys or urinary tract.  Some medications may have hematuria as a side affect.

Symptoms of blood in urine:

Pain in the side of the body – between the ribs and hip, pain in the lower abdomen or groin pain are some indicators.

A burning sensation or other discomfort when urinating.

Fever or nausea

Loss of appetite

Weight loss Some of these symptoms also relate to kidney stones or other problems.

Treatment for blood in urine:

If you have a urinary tract infection, you will most likely need to take an antibiotic for a few days or a couple of weeks, depending on severity.  If you have kidney stones, you will need to drink lots of water or other liquids to enable you to pass the stones and prevent further stone formation.  Pain medication may also be needed.

Sometimes a more extensive treatment is necessary.  This procedure is extracorporeal shock wave therapy.   This process uses sound waves to pulverize the kidney stones and the pieces pass on through the urinary tract.  There are other treatments but these are the most common.

PRECAUTION:

Anytime you discover you have blood in urine you have passed, especially if combined with any of the other symptoms, seek the help of your physician or emergency medical treatment.  This problem may or may not be severe.  It is best not to take chances with it.

How to Get Rid of Ingrown Hairs

How to Get Rid of Ingrown Hairs

So you want to know how to get rid of ingrown hairs? Ingrown hairs can be extremely painful when they occur, and even though the hairs often look like small pimples, there can’t be anything further from the truth. Ingrown hairs occur when a hair is broken or ripped out, and then instead of growing out the hair follicle, it grows into the side and begins to stick inside the skin, causing the painful, red bump. This is more likely to occur when a hair is ripped out, although it is possible to occur when just shaving. When an ingrown hair does occur, it is important to rid yourself of the issue, and although it is going to hurt a bit, it is best to remove the hair as soon as possible, otherwise the situation is just going to progress and worsen.

Apply a moisturizing cream to the area with the ingrown hair. You need to apply this at least once a day, if not more.  The moisturizing cream is going to help soften up the skin, which often allows the pours and hair follicles to soften, which in turn might free the ingrown hair on its own. However, if the ingrown hair is not free of the skin after a few days time, it is necessary to move onto the next step.

Attempt to “pop” the ingrown hair. This is exactly the same as popping a pimple. Apply pressure to both sides of the ingrown hair and press downwards with the fingers. This forces the hair follicle to press upwards and eventually come free. More than likely this is going to be painful, but if you can take it for a few moments, the relief you are going to feel from removing the ingrown hair will help the situation. You might need a little help to remove and pop the ingrown hair, if the hair is on your back. The hair actually lifts out of the follicle, so it is rather obvious when the hair is removed.

If this option doesn’t work (for rather stubborn hairs), your next option is to take a pair of tweezers and a needle and essentially fish out the hair follicle. There is still an opening in the skin, so it is possible to grab hold of the hair follicle with the tweezers. It is best to perform this feat after a shower when your pores are open. Again, it might be necessary to have someone help you out with this situation, otherwise it might not be possible for you to perform the task on your own.

When fishing out the hair with a pair of tweezers and needle, you might want to completely remove the hair. To do this, simply pull firmly at the base of the hair to remove it from the skin. This works, for the time being, although it might led to future ingrown hairs in the same location, as this is how the initial ingrown hair occurred. Use your best judgement when performing this task, as you don’t want to repeat the process in a few days. That is how to get rid of ingrown hairs, if you have any other questions or concerns feel free to leave a comment below.

Slower Paced Exercise Pays Off More In The Long Run

Slow and steady wins the race, where have we heard that before? According to researchers at Maastricht University in the Netherlands slower paced exercise like walking leads to higher activity levels overall.

The researchers composed a study with 30 men and women over a two week period revealing those that exercised vigorously for shorter periods of time ended up spending more time in a sedentary state. On the other hand those that exercise more lightly, but for longer periods of time like walking or biking showed to have a more active lifestyle overall.

While the vigorous exercise may burn more calories, the study showed that it lead to being less active

Pain In Lower Right Abdomen May Be Serious

Pain In Lower Right Abdomen

When someone complains of pain in lower right abdomen, several criteria should be looked at and evaluated before deciding how to proceed.  How severe it feels, and if the pain is localized or covering a larger area can help determine what may be the cause.  Asking a few questions of the person with the abdominal pain will also help to rule out several possibilities.

Has the person recently eaten any food, especially exotic, potentially spoiled or known as food that produces excess gas?  Is there any diarrhea, fever or pain in other parts of the body?  Is the painful feeling constant or does it come and go?  Will a movement, such as a sneeze, cause the person’s pain to become worse?

Since the lower right side of the abdomen has several different systems and a couple of organs running through it, the cause of the pain could be related to the intestines, reproductive system, pancreas or appendix.  Although pain in lower right abdomen may sometimes signal appendicitis, other causes can mimic it, including pancreatitis.  For this reason, waiting for a few hours may be what a doctor chooses to do, before deciding what other tests may be needed.

If the pain continues and the patient has a fever, a CAT scan may be ordered by the physician.   Waiting too long to treat appendicitis can cause it to burst, releasing the infection into the blood stream and other parts of the body.  Death can result when an appendix ruptures, so once antibiotic treatment is begun, surgical removal usually takes place.   If pain in lower right abdomen continues without subsiding at all, it is a good sign of inflammation.  If at all possible, the patient should see a doctor soon, since appendicitis rarely heals by itself.  Pain can seem unbearable if left without treatment from a professional, and surgery may be required.  Normally a doctor will prescribe antibiotics to fight the bacteria, which have invaded the appendix, possibly through an I.V. in a hospital.

Another cause of pain in lower right abdomen may be irritable bowel syndrome, or IBS.   This condition can be a reaction to food in the lower intestine.  Alternatively, a blockage to the intestines or colon may be caused by what is known as abdominal adhesions.  This is an immediate emergency, as bile cannot pass through.

Women who have pain in the lower right pelvic area, may be experiencing normal reproductive changes, which will soon disappear.  For pain or cramping, an over-the-counter pain reliever may help.  However, another possibility is a sexually transmitted disease, affecting the right fallopian tube and ovary.  Antibiotics will normally be all that is needed in this case.

Other organs in the same area are the gall bladder and the liver.  Severe pain can result from gall stones, liver disease or abscess.  Stomach ulcers occasionally drip infected fluid down into the intestines where pain will be the result.   As if all of those possibilities weren’t enough, the colon and the spleen are also nearby, and can radiate pain when problems arise.

Common Fibromyalgia Symptoms

Fibromyalgia Symptoms

Fibromyalgia is a disease that mainly affects women and the number one symptom of fibromyalgia is pain throughout the body. The pain often varies and can be felt as a burning, gnawing, sore, tender, dull, sharp, throbbing or aching pain. It tends to be felt deep in the muscles, tendons and ligaments and is centered on the joints of the body. The pain can be constant or it may come and go.
Accompanying the pain will often be very painful tender spots or localized places of tenderness over the joints when light pressure is applied. It is actually the tissue around the joints and not the joints themselves. Even though this soreness feels deep, it is really located just below the skin. These tender points never change location and are always in the same spots.
Second to pain and tender points, people who suffer from fibromyalgia experience fatigue. It causes a continuous tiredness that can interfere with daily activities. It is a feeling of never getting enough rest no matter how much sleep and rest one has had. Some fibromyalgia sufferers compare the fatigue symptoms to the flu or working long hours without any sleep. The fatigue is usually immediately felt when awakening or after mild activity which can prevent individuals from being able to engage in daily activities, exercise, work or even sex.
While the basic signs of fibromyalgia is pain that includes deep muscle and joint pain with tenderness, along with fatigue, there are also many other symptoms that can be associated with Fibromyalgia.
• Morning stiffness is a common complaint in over 75% of fibromyalgia patients. The stiffness can be severe and is felt in the muscles and joints of the back and limbs. It can last for only minutes or as much as the entire day.

• Headaches that are persistent, including chronic migraine or tension-type headaches, are a typical symptom in around 70% of individuals who have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia.

• Menstrual cramps that are extremely painful occur in around 35% of women with fibromyalgia.

• Restless legs syndrome causes discomfort in the legs and the feeling of having to constantly move the legs, which can also interrupt sleep.

• Irritable Bowel Syndrome can be one of the many fibromyalgia symptoms. It can cause constipation, diarrhea, stomach pain, gas, acid reflux and nausea.

• Urinary problems such a constant sensation to have to urinate, frequent and/or painful urination, pain or even incontinence occurs in 25% or even more of individuals with fibromyalgia.

• Sleep disturbances is one of the fibromyalgia symptoms commonly suffered by patients. They don’t usually have a problem falling asleep, but they suffer from sleep disturbances and often wakeup feeling exhausted. Tests in sleep labs have proven that individuals with fibromyalgia have continuous interruptions in the brain, which prevents them from achieving the deep sleep needed to revitalize the body.

• Swelling, numbness and a tingling sensation in limbs, feet and hands is a symptom of fibromyalgia and felt by more than half of patients.

• Depression is one of the fibromyalgia symptoms that patients complain of. In fact, one out of four people who suffer from the condition have major depression, and one out of two patients had suffered from depression throughout their entire life. The relentless pain, fatigue, anxiety and inability to be active are usually the cause of the depression.

• “Fibro fog” is a common Fibromyalgia symptom that results in memory loss, especially short-term memory. It also affects the ability to concentrate.

How To Get Rid Of Bags Under Your Eyes

How To Get Rid Of Bags Under Your Eyes

So you want to know how to get rid of bags under your eyes? Dreaded under eye bags.-unattractive puffiness and frequently associated dark circles are a common complaint by women.  To understand how to get rid of under eye bags, it is important to understand why they occur in the first place.  The appearance of mild swelling of tissue around the eyes is a common occurrence in the aging process.  As you age, tissues and muscles around your eyes tend to weaken, causing support to the eye to shift, resulting in puffiness on the eyelid.  Fluid may accumulate below the eye, causing swelling or puffiness.  While it is always recommended to discuss any physical changes with your physician, usually the problem of under eye bags is more of a cosmetic concern than being due to a serious medical condition.

Women are often at a loss as what to do to get rid of under eye bags.  Unfortunately, heredity may play a role.  Do other family members have those same under-age bags?  If so, there may be little you can do to change this fact.  Spending money on “wonder drugs” will likely be ineffective when the puffiness is attributed to hereditary.  Under eye bags, however, may be caused by other  factors.  Common reasons why these occur may be due to diet, alcohol or tobacco use or allergies.  Water retention, sleep position and even crying have also been attributed to this puffiness.

Remember grandma telling you to use a slice of cold cucumber on the eye for relief?  A short-term solution may be simply placing a cold compress near the eye.  By causing the blood vessels to constrict due to the cold temperature, less blood flows into the tissue around eye, diminishing swelling.  This is why this home remedy is effective.  Cooled tea bags are another item easily found in the home.  Place these cooled tea bags on the eyelids for fifteen minutes to help decrease puffiness.  Elevating the head when sleeping will also decrease the pooling of fluid around the eye and lessen under eye puffiness.  Placing risers under your bed’s headboard will minimize fluid distribution under the eye.  Changes to diet include eating foods rich in vitamins C and A will help to reduce under eye puffiness.  Eating a low carbohydrate diet can be helpful by preventing water retention. That is how to get rid of bags under your eyes, if you have any questions or concerns feel free to leave a comment below.

To discover if under eye bags are due to an allergy, note if you’ve recently started wearing any new cosmetics.  If eyes are also red and irritated, you may be having an allergic reaction to these products and this can be the cause of under eye swelling.  Other items such as processed foods or produce  sprayed for pesticides might also be the cause of an allergic reaction.  Using an antihistamine may reduce any inflammation associated with allergy.  Extreme solutions may include correction through surgery, although this may not be an option for many.  Make-up tricks will also help to conceal any swelling or puffiness.  Under eye bags may not be inevitable.  The solution may be as simple as discovering the reason for the swelling.

Histrionic Personality Disorder Symptoms And Details

Histrionic Personality Disorder

Histrionic personality disorder is a disorder in which an individual is dramatic in many ways, particularly to gain the attention of others. The disorder may manifest in the outward expression of emotions, whether real or contrived, the person’s behavior or the person’s attire. Histrionic personality disorder does not typically interfere with a person’s ability to function, though it can be a detriment to relationships and work if the behavior becomes an issue for others. The symptoms of the disorder are varied, but typically involve a range of attention seeking methods.

While not always a sign of the disorder, dressing provocatively is a potential symptom. Done to gain the sexual attention of others, it may be coupled with inordinate concern for one’s appearance. Many people are vain, but people with the disorder are not just pleasing themselves with their manner of dress; they are attempting to please others.

The emotions of a person with histrionic personality disorder are dramatic, ever changing, self-centered and overblown. Things that are not very important can cause a person with this disorder to overreact in a way that gains the attention of others. It is not emotion that is dealt with in private, but is public and more than would be expected. For example, a person who cries hysterically about a bad haircut and talks about it for days afterward, seeking sympathy from others. A person who is dealing with a lot of stress may react somewhat similarly. However, it is the attention seeking that defines the symptom.

When it comes to romantic relationships, a person with histrionic personality disorder may see more to the relationship than is there. Always in fear of rejection, he or she will crave the intimacy and deep love of dramatic love stories. Because their expectations are out of proportion with reality, criticism or rejection in the relationship can cause dramatic outbursts of emotion that are in line with the fantasies of the individual.

There is a level of hypochondria sometimes involved in histrionic personality disorder. The person will imagine or exaggerate physical symptoms, convincing him or herself and telling other people that they are ill. In these situations and others, people with the disorder do not like it when the attention shifts away from them. They will seem bored or distracted with other’s problems and inordinately focused on their own.

Despite their need to be the center of attention, histrionic people are easily swayed by others. This is presumably in line with their need for praise. If they do what other people want them to do, they will be thought of highly.

Histrionic personality disorder symptoms are diagnosed by these and by a professional interacting with the individual. Because it is sometimes natural to crave attention, not all people who show these symptoms have a disorder. They can be brought on by stress, poor self-image and strong sexuality. There is treatment available for the disorder, but doctors must first rule out other disorders that may present similarly, such as somatoform disorders and depression.

How To Get Rid Of Cramps Fast

How To Get Rid Of Cramps

A cramp is the contraction of a muscle that can last anywhere from several minutes to an hour or longer. They can be painful and often hinder physical activity. Cramps have several causes including injury, muscle fatigue, dehydration and low levels of electrolytes. However, most cramps are not serious and easily treatable.

Athletes will experience cramps in their arms and legs after periods of physical exertion. They know how to get rid of cramps like these by simply stretching. Arm cramps can easily be dispelled by performing swimming motions such as a butterfly or back stroke. Forward bends will help stretch out hamstrings, and flexing a foot will relieve tightness in the calf. Massaging or rubbing the muscle can help reduce tension. Also, applying heat will increase blood flow to the muscle allowing it to relax. Muscle fatigue, due to overexertion, is very dangerous because serious injury can occur.

More than 70% of the human body is comprised of water, so this level must be maintained in order to have normal functioning organs and muscles. Drinking eight glasses of water a day is recommended to help prevent dehydration. Having a proper electrolyte balance is just as important. Eating a balanced diet and providing the body with the right vitamins, minerals and electrolytes will help. During exercise the human body loses electrolytes and these must be replenished because they are vital in carrying electrical impulses throughout the body, especially the muscle system. Sports drinks, fruit drinks, coconut water and milk are excellent sources of electrolytes. Recipes can be found online for creating homemade electrolyte drinks. Avoid diuretics like coffee and soda which promote urination and possibly dehydration.

Naturally, women want to know how to get rid of cramps during a menstrual cycle. These can be very uncomfortable and last much longer then a normal muscle cramp. One of the most effective treatments for cramps is over-the-counter aspirin. There are also plenty of medicines available on store shelves made specifically for menstrual cramping as well. Oral contraceptives, which thin the lining of the uterus, can eliminate cramping by reducing uterine contractions. Taking a hot shower, bath or applying a heating pad will help relieve pain around the lower abdomen. Also, exercising helps relieve cramping by releasing endorphins.

For the most part, cramps are easy to fix. However, the best way to avoid the pain is to prevent cramps from happening. Stretching before and after strenuous exercise is important and helps prevent pulled muscles. For those who don’t exercise, performing light stretches in the morning are a tremendous benefit even for everyday activities. Drinking plenty of fluids before, during and after an activity will inhibit cramps as well. Eating a balanced diet is vital to make sure all the essential vitamins and minerals are being consumed to ensure a proper functioning body. Unfortunately, for women, menstrual cramps are a regular occurrence, but they can be reduced by following the information in this article. Remember, prevention is the best medicine in matters of health. That is how to get rid of cramps, if you have any questions or comments feel free to drop a line below.

What Is A Catheter Used For

What Is A Catheter

So you want to know what is a catheter? A catheter is a hollow tube made for the purpose of inserting into the cavity of the body or duct for transfer of fluids into or out of the body. They are mostly manufactured with rubber or plastic with varied length and size among the different types. Catheters are mostly found in the medical environment. It takes a heath care professional to insert this material in the body. Catheters when inserted can be left in the body for variable time length and can even be left permanently. If left permanently, it is called indwelling catheter or a permcath. The length of use of catheter is dependent on the patient’s need. Most of the catheters commonly used are the urinary, intravenous and cardiac catheterization catheters.

Urinary Catheter

This type of catheter is mainly used to remove urine from the body. It is mostly placed in the body via the urethra. It collects urine from the bladder and transfers it into an outward collection bag. It can also be used for the treatment of urinary dysfunction cases. In a case were the bladder cannot be controlled which is mostly found in women with epidural during child birth, urinary catheter plays a vital role. It can also be useful for treating other various medical defects that affects bladder control.

Urinary catheter comes in three different types; external, intermittent, and indwelling catheter. The external or condom catheter is for external use. Instead of being inserted into the body, it is placed outside the body over the urethra opening; it collects urine from this point and transfers it to a drainage bag. It has been found not to be very effective for women, so, it is mostly used by men.

People with undersized bladders and cannot completely drain their bladder by themselves are advised to go for the intermittent catheter. This type is inserted via the urethra. It is removed intermittently as bladder gets drained completely. Intermittent catheter can be disposable or reusable.

The indwelling catheter as the name sounds is often used for a long time because it is mostly left in the body (bladder) for a longer time. It is also inserted via the urethra and can be called the Foley catheter. It is held in place with the help of a balloon which is punctured once there is need to remove the catheter.

Intravenous Catheter

This catheter is mainly for Intravenous therapy for the transfer of fluid; like medications into and out of the body. It is also used to remove fluids out of the body. The use of this catheter can be seen in the collection of blood from a blood donor and transferred into a plastic bag for storage to be used later. To complete the cycle, a patient in need of blood transfusion gets it through this same catheter.

Cardiac Catheterization

This instrument can be very useful in the diagnosis and the treatment of several heart conditions. In a procedure known as cardiac catheterization, the heart professional, cardiologist inserts this device into the patient’s blood vessel which he gradually directs to the heart, a process which helps the cardiologist to have visual access to the heart and blood vessels detecting blockage or anomaly for the purpose of diagnosing and probably finding a suitable treatment for the patient.

More Uses

Catheters are also used in chorionic sampling. It is one method used for sample collection from the linking cord between mother and her unborn child, placenta. This sampling gives expectant parents information of any birth defect on their child. To test for any abnormality in the fetus, catheters are found useful in the extraction of amniotic fluid.

Risks

There might be complications with the use of any of these catheters though the complications vary and it is dependent on the catheter type. Some of the common problems encountered are allergy to the material used in producing the catheter, bleeding during the placement of catheter. Urinary catheter most times causes urinary tract infection. The doctor should discuss any risk involved in the use of any catheter before inserting it. That should answer the question of what is a catheter.

Flax Seed Benefits And Common Uses

Flax Seed Benefits

Flax is a long and slender plant with flowering petals that can be either blue or red. The plants bear fruit that contain flax seeds, which are growing in popularity as a natural way to improve one’s health. The seeds are brown or yellow. The brown seeds are usually just used as an ingredient in paints and cattle feed even though they are as edible and nutritious as the yellow seeds. Both kinds of seeds produce flax seed oil, which is also called linseed oil. Linseed oil serves a great number of commercial purposes.

The flax seed benefits are derived from the seeds’ high fiber and omega-3 fatty acid content. Consuming flax seeds can lower one’s cholesterol levels. The seeds improve the overall health of people who are suffering from breast or prostate cancer. It may shrink the tumors, but this has not been conclusively proven as of yet. They may stabilize the levels of blood sugar in people with diabetes. They are also an effective natural laxative because they contain so much fiber. These flax seed benefits come at the cost of possibly impairing the effectiveness of some medications, so people with concerns regarding their medications should talk to a doctor before adding large amount of flax seeds to their diets.

Flax seeds are a great source of naturally occurring estrogen, which makes it a good addition to the diets of women who would like a non-synthetic manner of supplementing their waning levels of estrogen as they age. One of the more all-encompassing flax seed benefits is that they are high in antioxidants, which remove free radicals from the body so the immune system can work toward maintaining optimum health rather than fighting off a myriad amount of constant small problems that weaken it as time goes by.

Flax seeds are often added to starchy foods like crackers, cereal and bread. Chickens who eat food containing flax seeds lay eggs that are higher in heart-healthy fatty acids! It is important to keep in mind that these flax seed benefits are more holistic than medicinal, and flax seeds should not be eaten as a substitute for taking prescribed medications or undergoing necessary surgical procedures. It is best to strike a comfortable balance between natural, low-key healthy eating (which includes a diet that is rich in foods containing flax seeds) and science-based medicine.

People do not have to have existing health problems in order to benefit from consuming flax seeds. While flax seeds are not proven to be a preventative measure against poor health, there are multitudes of anecdotal accounts that sing the praises of flax seeds and the ways that they have improved people’s health.

Safflower Oil Uses And Benefits

Safflower Oil

Safflower oil is extracted from the seeds of a plant called the safflower. It is very similar to sunflower seed oil. It is most often used in cosmetics, although it is frequently used in cooking as well. Sometimes margarine is made out of safflower oil. Safflower seeds taste really bad to squirrels, so they make a great addition to birdfeeders!

There are two types of safflower oil: monounsaturated and polyunsaturated. The monounsaturated safflower oil is great for cooking, particularly deep frying, and it can be stored for a rather long time. Polyunsaturated safflower oil is breaks down when exposed to heat, but it works well as an additive in salad dressing and other cold dishes. It is high in vitamin E, so simply ingesting it after using it to prepare food will automatically result in naturally healthier and clearer skin! It contains fatty acids that keep the heart healthy and functioning properly. It is is slightly more expensive than canola and other vegetable oils, but it allows for cooking at higher temperatures, which may be important depending on which recipes are being prepared. For most purposes, safflower oil and vegetable oil are virtually indistinguishable in terms of flavor and aroma when used in commonplace cooking.

People who suffer from heart disease and type 2 diabetes should consider switching from canola oil to safflower oil when cooking, since it has been shown to reduce the symptoms of both conditions. It is very low in the saturated fats that are solid at room temperature and clog up the arteries. Its healthy fatty acids are great for the immune system and for ridding the body of free toxins that contribute to poor health.

Safflower oil can also be used as a beauty tool. The pure oil can be massaged into the base of the hair follicles right on the scalp to improve the overall quality of the hair and also to make the entire length of the hair shinier. It is often used as a skin moisturizer by proponents of natural and organic beauty regimens. One variation on the oil cleansing method even cites it as a suitable alternative to olive oil as a facial cleanser that contributes skin-nourishing vitamin E and removes impurities without stripping the skin of healthy moisturizing oils.

Safflower oil has some unexpected applications: it is often added to paints to make them dry faster. It is also used as an ingredient in linoleum. It is sometimes used as a nutritional supplement for its high levels of vitamin E and heart-healthy oils; ingesting about one tablespoon daily can make a massive difference in those who currently suffer from poor health.

The supplement is known to be generally safe when taken orally in a short period of time (six months) and directly applied to the skin. However, when taken orally, side effects such as constipation, stomach upset and gas may be experienced.

WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS

– For pregnant and breast-feeding mothers: There is no sufficient evidence regarding the safety or danger of the substance to pregnant and lactating women. Thus, it is best to avoid use to ensure safety.

– For individuals with shellfish allergy: Since the substance is obtained from the outer skeleton or shell of various shellfishes. There is an ongoing concern among people who have allergies with seafoods and shellfishes. Although there are no concrete evidences yet, most are apprehensive about the substance’s safety. However, the allergic reaction to shellfishes is said to be caused by the meat, not the shell (after all, people do not normally consume the shell or outer skeleton). Thus, a lot of medical experts assume that the substance is safe for individuals who are allergic to shellfishes.
