Acetyl Coa Equals Skinny People

Acetyl Coa was first found back in the 1930’s by four scientists who were investigating the mechanism of metabolism. They found that the body turned glucose into either fats or burned it for immediate use as fuel. They found that Acetyl Coa is a molecule that helps an enzyme by transferring two carbon units between various biological molecules. The analogy might be that of a delivery truck that transports its cargo of carbon along the roadways of vessels to the muscles. Acetyl Coa is composed of two main parts and one of these parts is used for energy storage. The two are highly reactive and they join to form acetyl coa.

Acetyl Coa is part of the citric acid cycle. When someone eats food, the various compounds of carbohydrates, fats and proteins are chopped up in the liver and intestines into much smaller units through the process of digestion. On a molecular level the same thing is happening in the blood. The digestive cycle in the blood transports Acetyl Coa to other molecules residing in the cells all over the body. The energy the body needs is either used, or stored as fat. The cycle produces a biochemical reaction that creates adenosine triphosphate and water. Adenosine triphosphae is the molecule that stores energy in the form of phosphate bonds also known as fat because it uses it later when needed.

Acetyl Coa is a crucial molecule in metabolism. It is a major fuel for the oxidation process in the body. Acetyl Coa it is the beginning for synthesis of fatty acids from carbohydrates. Fatty acids make triglycerides as most people recognize as being the “bad” fat. In normal circumstances Acetyl Coa from fatty acid metabolism contributes to a cell’s energy supply.  It is the major fuel for the oxidation processes in the body. It is produced in aerobic respiration and carries carbon atoms to be oxidized for energy production. All of this occurs at a molecular level in the body and may happen at different rates for some people. The difference in how someone oxidizes Acetyl Coa is the reason behind the variation in people’s body types across the globe.
