Bladder tumor is an abnormal growth in the linings of the bladder. This bladder cancer is also called transitional cell carcinoma. The condition forms when there is cell overgrowth in the bladder which usually appears as a wart like formation in the bladder. It can be benign or malignant. When the mass does not spread to other parts it is benign and is easily treated. Malignant bladder tumor is life threatening because it could metastasize in other tissues. However, either type of bladder tumor can interfere in the effective and normal operation of the bladder, hence immediate treatment is advised. According to statistics, men are more at risk to this condition than women which are most frequently detected at the age of 50. Predisposing factors for the growth of this abnormal mass in the bladder includes smoking, having an ongoing bladder infection or exposure to some parasites and industrial chemicals for a long period of time.

When diagnosed, the goals of treatment includes the removal of the tumor, prevention of recurrence of the mass, prevention of metastasis from superficial to muscle invasion of the bladder cancer cells, preservation of normal functioning of the bladder and finally to enable the patient to have a good happy life.
There are several treatment procedures now available against this bladder disorder even for those cancerous mass when detected at early stage. Surgery is indicated to remove the tumor itself and part of the bladder where the mass grew. Sometimes, it is advisable to remove the whole organ. Chemotherapy is also one of the effective treatments for bladder tumor where drugs are used to kill cancer cells; while immunotherapy is an optional way to treat the condition by using biological therapy to stimulate the immune system to fight cancer cells. Radiation therapy aims directly at cancerous mass and shrinks the bladder tumor before surgery which makes it easier to extract.
