Common Varicose Veins Causes

Varicose veins are enlarged, discolored often tortuous superficial leg veins that cause chronic pain in the leg region due to venous insufficiency and stasis. Usually, people with varicose veins have a disturbed body image as evidenced by hiding the affected part of the legs because of its very unpleasant representation on the legs especially to ladies. However, many laymen are wondering what the varicose veins causes are and what to do to prevent it from appearing in the most precious legs of anyone.

 

            People at risk to having varicose veins includes increasing age because as we get older, the valves in the veins becomes weak and could not function as competent as it should be.  Persons born with weak valves also are at risk.  Furthermore, hormonal changes may predispose the occurrence of varicose veins which usually occurs during puberty, pregnancy and at menopausal stage. Taking drugs with estrogen and progesterone likewise contributes to the formation of the engorged blood in the vein. Obesity also takes contribution to varicose veins because overweight put extra pressure in the vein. The veins are also forced to work harder when there is lack of movement.             Varicose veins causes weak or damaged valves in the veins where venous insufficiency occurred when blood returns back into the vein and collect themselves in that part of the vein. And when engorged blood makes the vein bigger than normal, they can become varicose.  Persons having varicose veins usually experiences pain after long standing or sitting.  They also suffer from throbbing or cramping.  There is heaviness, swelling and darkening of the swollen vein. The varicose veins are also irritating and the person gets the feeling of having a restless legs.  However, varicose veins have no serious health considerations, it only cause uncomfortable feeling in the legs.

 

            Some individual with varicose veins however seeks medical attention to correct the condition.  Treatments for varicose veins include the use of compression stockings, sclerotheraphy which has been the most common treatment, and surface laser treatment.

 

            The different varicose veins causes are very much preventable by not exposing yourself to sunlight or putting sunscreen when under the sun. Regular exercise and working the legs during exercise also prevents the condition. Weight control to prevent obesity is also a good factor.  Never crossed legs for a long time and during rest, elevate the legs above the level of the heart.  Avoid sitting or standing for long period of time and wearing of tight clothing that may constrict the waist, legs and groin. Wearing elastic support stocking is also recommended. Wearing high heels for long time can contribute to the condition. Then eat low salt diet rich in fiber foods.
