Slim fast diet consists of a 3-2-1 diet plan. The plan emphasizes three 100 calorie snacks, two 200 calorie meal replacements like shakes or meal bars and one dinner. Shakes can be used as a meal replacement; a person on diet is allowed 2 in a day, they form the two ‘2’ a day.  These are ready to drink shakes and can be mixed with skimmed milk and consumed. They must be shaken well before use. Shake mix powder can be mixed with either milk or water or any favourable drink and consumed. Bars are available as snack bars and meal replacements. Meal replacements contain 200 calories and are used in the place of ‘2’ in the 3-2-1 schema. They can be used in the place of shakes and are fortified with vitamins and minerals. Snack bars are 100 calories and mean to be in the‘3’ of the 3-2-1 plan and a person can have 3 a day. Snack bars are not fortified with vitamins and minerals like meal replacements bars. Two snack bars are the same as one meal bar in terms of the amount of calories. Only difference is that the meal bars are supplemented with vitamins and minerals. Slim fast does not provide any products in the category ‘1’ which is one sensible meal which is supposed to be of 500 calories.

The one meal selected by the individual should not be high in saturated fats and oils. One must include fresh fruits and fresh vegetables as far as possible as they are rich in antioxidants, vitamins, minerals and fiber. A high fiber diet is essential to fasten weight loss and maintain a healthy digestive system. Meats if consumed should be lean meat in order to avoid excess animal fat.
