Knowing More About Dysuria

Painful urination is often associated with urinary tract infection but that is not always the case.  There is a condition called dysuria which is accompanied by sharp burning feeling when a person urinates, women are the ones who commonly suffer from the said disorder but men can also be victims and it can happen at whichever age a person may be.

Dysuria is experienced when the trigon of the human bladder or the urethra is irritated and becomes inflamed, it will then result to difficult urination and the feeling of burning pain because the bladder contracts as the person urinates.  The excretory system, particularly the urinary tract is classified as either the upper tract or the lower tract, the disorder often arises from the infected lower tract but there are cases when the pain is caused by the inflammation of the upper tract.  The cause for the latter is a damaged renal concentrating function which leads to the frequency of urinating.

Women who are young and are engaged in sexual activities are the ones who often manifest the symptoms of dysuria.  The symptoms should not be taken for granted and they are advised to seek the help of health care experts for evaluation so that if they are diagnosed with the disorder, proper medication can be given to treat the condition.  The evaluation will involve a review of the person’s medical history followed by the examining of urine sample, once the tests are conducted and the person is found to be infected, the doctor will then prescribe medication.  It would be best if the culture is identified because certain bacteria are resistant to antibiotics.

Other infections can also lead to dysuria.  People who are suffering from urethritis or the condition where the urethra of a person is inflamed, making it difficult to urinate; those who are experiencing cystitis or the infection of one’s bladder are also prone to this disorder.  People with pyelonephritis condition or the infection of the kidney can also suffer from this urinary problem; men whose prostate becomes infected or are suffering from prostatitis, the swelling of the prostate, may also go through this disorder since the urinary tract is impaired by the infection.  Another case that is associated with the symptoms of the disorder is that of people suffering from different sexually transmitted diseases.

Apart from the infection of major organs and other parts of the urinary tract, there are other causes that could result to dysuria such as trauma, this can happen when an instrument is placed or inserted to the urinary tract like catheter, even contact from the sexual act can cause trauma.  To prevent the said cases, people are advised to urinate before going to bed and right after the sexual act so as not to hold the urine for a long time and cause adverse effects like infections or inflammation; practicing hygiene and the avoidance of any harsh products for the genitals that can cause irritation will prove to be of great help in preventing this disorder.
