Almost each one of us feels anxious at some point or the other in our lives. There are a few other disorders like thyroid problems, diabetes etc which may mimic or present as anxiety and some of the other symptoms, and they must be ruled out before you are diagnosed as generalized anxiety disorder.

A herb called passionflower or Passiflora incarnate. It has been used since ancient times to treat anxiety as well as people suffering from insomnia benefited much from it. In recent times it has been shown to be as effective as a few drugs used for treatment of anxiety in modern medicine like benzodiazepines, mexazolam. People using passionflower were found to be much more active, had good sleep and could perform better at their respective jobs. Some people develop side effects like nausea, vomiting, drowsiness, tachycardia following use of passion flower. Also the effectiveness of this drug among children, pregnant women, lactating mothers, and people suffering from kidney or liver disease is not known as yet. It has various drug interactions with sedatives as well as pentobarbital.
