A lot of women crave the kind of beautiful, smooth hair that they can run their fingers through without experiencing any snags. There was a time that they would have to spend at least a couple of hours, ironing their hair every single day or going to a salon and asking for a hair straightening treatment that may give them straight hair but leaving what should be their crowning glory dried out and brittle. Nowadays, many women have turned to a new professional smoothing treatment that can be done in an hour and a half in a salon and leave them with smooth and shiny hair that will last for up to twelve weeks and this treatment is called the Brazilian Blowout.
Many celebrities have endorsed the Brazilian Blowout and quite a few women have followed suit and gone for a treatment in order to get rid of the frizz that seems to be the bane of their existence. The treatment is a tad pricey at four hundred dollars ($400) or more a pop and has endured a lot of criticism and controversy recently with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration or OSHA releasing an alert that stated that the Brazilian Blowout product contain levels of formaldehyde that were higher than are allowed and stated by federal limits. Even with the release of what the company claims is a formaldehyde free version of the product, the OSHA insists that studies were done and the formaldehyde levels are still past the allowable limits. It must be stressed, however, that the investigation and studies of OSHA were not limited to just the Brazilian Blowout treatment and included other hair smoothening products.
Some of the complaints received by the OSHA include reports of headaches, vomiting, nausea, asthma attacks, blisters, and nosebleeds. While the makers of the smoothening treatment claim that there is absolutely no more formaldehyde in their newer line, many women have grown wary and have decided to stick with ironing their hair instead. On the flipside, there are those women who have tried the Brazilian Blowout treatment and continue to swear by it, stating that they have had yet to experience any of the negative effects other people have claimed to have gone through after either receiving the treatment or providing it to a client in a salon.
As with anything that will come into contact with a person’s body, including one’s hair, it is important to learn as much about whatever product they may be considering using or taking. Being armed with as much information as possible allows a person to make better choices and decisions. A woman considering using the Brazilian Blowout treatment can look over the ingredients and components used to make the product and can research more about them. They can go a step further and contact organizations or federal offices that can provide them with facts and figures and answer any questions that they may have about it. A better informed decision can save women worry.
