The Paleolithic Diet | For You?

Paleolithic refers to the age when mankind lived in caves and there was no agriculture and men had to go out hunting for their food. The Paleolithic diet is an attempt to match one’s eating styles to those people thousands of years ago. There is no doubt that people in that age had really healthy bodies and lived longer lives. So why can’t we learn what their secret is? And that’s what the Paleolithic diet attempts to do. Therefore, if we look closely at what those people used to eat it’s all meat, fresh fruits and vegetables along with dairy products and grain with no salt, processed foods or canned products like we consume these days.

The first most basic ingredient in the Paleolithic diet is meat and eggs. Eggs especially form a significant part of the Paleolithic diet. And then don’t forget that in the Paleolithic diet those people used to feed their animals only organic food. Therefore Paleolithic diet includes another factor which involves organic food. If you’re on the Paleolithic diet you should ask your grocery stores for meat and eggs of those animals that were fed only organic diet and were not given any antibiotics or any other medications. The meat you buy for Paleolithic diet should be totally free of breeding. In the Paleolithic diet all meat they ate was lean. Therefore if you plan on going on the Paleolithic diet consume only lean meat.

The second most important part of the Paleolithic diet is vegetables.  However when we talk about vegetables in the Paleolithic diet the ones that are full of starch like potatoes and cassava etc are not allowed. The Paleolithic diet says that you should only eat those vegetables that can be eaten raw. This doesn’t mean that in the Paleolithic diet you have to consume vegetables in raw form. Rather it means that the Paleolithic diet includes all those vegetables that can be consumed raw. Like potatoes cannot be eaten in their raw form. Hence potatoes are not included in the Paleolithic diet.

After that comes fruit in the Paleolithic diet. Fruit is encouraged a lot. But here again in the Paleolithic diet it says that you should avoid those fruit that are too high in sugar content. In the Paleolithic diet it is encouraged to eat fruit in its raw form rather than drinking juices. Finally the Paleolithic diet includes lots of nuts and seeds.
