Important Heart Failure Guidelines

According to heart failure guidelines, high mortality rate, reduced quality of life, complex therapeutic program, and frequent hospitalization characterize heart failure (HF).  Because the knowledge about HF is accumulating at a very rapid rate, most individual clinicians are hard-pressed to adequately and readily assimilate the new data into effective treatment plans for patients suffering from the disease.

Although trial data are valuable, they do not usually provide the necessary direction for the management of individual patients.  Because of these qualities, HF is considered as ideal for practice guidelines.  A full range of patient management, evaluation, and care of HF patients is addressed in the heart failure guidelines provided by the “Heart Failure Society of America”.

In general, heart failure is the inability of the heart to deliver enough supply of blood that the body needs.  HF causes various symptoms like leg swelling, exercise intolerance, and shortness of breath.  Echocardiography (ECG) and blood tests are used to diagnose this medical condition.  Treatment of the disorder involves life style modifications (particularly smoking cessation, reduced intake of fatty and salty foods, and light exercises), taking of various medications, and in some cases – even surgery.

Myocardial infarction, valvular heart disease, hypertension, and other similar types of ischemic heart diseases are among the common causes of HF.  Sometimes the HF is mistakenly used to refer to other heart-related disorders like cardiac arrest or myocardial infarction (heart attack).  Although they can subsequently result to heart failure, they are different conditions.

According to heart failure guidelines HF may be a common ailment, but it is definitely costly, debilitating, and a potentially fatal condition.  It is therefore not something to be taken for granted.  Based on studies, about 2% of adults in developed countries suffer from HF, but the figure dramatically rises to around 6 to 10% in people who are at least 65 years old.

Heart failure is a globally-used term to describe the physiological condition where the cardiac output is deemed insufficient in addressing the requirements of the lungs and body.  It is also called congestive heart failure (CHF) because it can also occur when the low cardiac output causes the body to become congested with fluids.

The condition may also happen when the body’s needs for nutrients and oxygen increase and the demand exceeds the production of the heart.  This is known as high output cardiac failure and a condition that can result because of a severe case of anemia, beriberi, arteriovenous fistulae, arteriovenous malformations, Paget’s disease, and Gram negative septicaemia.

Although fluid overload occurs commonly in individuals with HF, it is not the same condition.  People undergoing treatment for heart failure will usually be euvolaemic or under a normal fluid status.  They will rarely be dehydrated.  Doctors often use the words acute and chronic to mean rapid onset and long duration, respectively.  A chronic heart failure is a long-term medical condition that is often characterized with stable management of symptoms.  Continuous, monitoring, medication, and treatment are necessary in order to properly control the disease and prevent it from getting worse.

Pituitary Gland Tumor Information

Although small, the pituitary gland is a very important gland that can be found near the brain.  It is called the master endocrine gland primarily due to its secretion of various types of hormones that affect many functions of the body.  A pituitary gland tumor can develop when normal cells start to grow and change uncontrollably.  The tumor can either be noncancerous (benign and remains in the pituitary gland) or cancerous (malignant and may spread to other body parts).

In most cases, a pituitary gland tumor is only benign which can be classified as a pituitary adenoma.  However, it can sometimes manifest traits of a cancerous tumor by affecting adjacent structures and tissues, or in very rare cases, invading other body parts.  And contrary to what some people may think, they are not brain tumors simply because the pituitary gland is separate from the brain as it is situated under it.

Be that as it may, a tumor on  pituitary gland can sometimes be serious.  If the gland does not function properly, it can cause problems in other systems or organs of the body.  The abnormal growth can also put pressure on structures located nearby like the optic nerves.  This intrusion will impair an individual’s vision.

Based on statistics, around 7000 cases of tumors on pituitary gland are diagnosed every year in the United States alone.  Because the gland is very proximate to the human brain, data collectors sometimes mistakenly classify this tumor type as a brain tumor.  The tumor growth is more commonly seen in adults and is generally of the benign type.

There are three hereditary syndromes that are known as the major risk factors for the growth of the tumor.  Genetic testing is used to determine the risk for all the conditions.

  • Type 1 Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia (MEN1) – This type of hereditary factor increases the risk of developing pituitary tumors in member of the family who are affected.
  • Carney Complex – This is a particular genetic condition that can enhance an individual’s risk of developing pituitary gland tumor although it does not always result to it.
  • Familial Acromegaly – This is a condition common in adults that results from excessive growth hormones.  It can either happen as part of the development of MEN or isolated within a family.

People who have the tumor may manifest various symptoms such as headaches, impotence in men due to hormonal changes, infertility, inappropriate breast milk production, changes in menstrual cycle, vision problems, irritability, unexplained tiredness, Cushing’s syndrome (which comes as a combination of diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, and easy bruising) due to the excessive production of ACTH, and Acromegaly (enlargement of limbs or extremities and thickening of the jaw and skull) because of excessive growth hormones.

Pituitary gland tumor patients may sometimes experience none of the above symptoms at all.  There are also cases when the symptoms are caused by other medical conditions totally not related to the tumor in the pituitary gland.  If you are alerted by any of the symptoms, medical attention must immediately be sought.

Most Common Chronic Bronchitis Symptoms

In general, bronchitis is the inflammation of the lungs’ primary air passages and may either be acute (short-lived), or chronic if the ailment lingers for a longer period of time and it usually recurs.  Acute and chronic bronchitis symptoms may be similar, the most common of which is mucus-producing cough.

Chronic Bronchitis Symptoms

Common symptoms of chronic bronchitis (which also appear in acute cases) include fatigue, wheezing, chest discomfort, fever, breath shortness that becomes worse with mild activity or physical exertion, and cough that comes with mucus (it is probably bacterial infection if the mucus produced is yellow-green in color).

Additional chronic bronchitis symptoms may also appear including having frequent respiratory infections like flu or colds; swelling on the leg, ankle, and feet; and low oxygen levels resulting to blue colored lips.  In the case of acute bronchitis, nagging cough may still linger even several weeks after the bronchitis has cleared.

Chronic Bronchitis Causes

Smokers; people with lung or heart diseases; and infants, young children, and the elderly are prone to acute bronchitis.  Usually, it ensues after a viral respiratory infection.  The disease initially affects the throat, nose, and sinuses after which it spreads to the lungs.  In some cases, a secondary bacterial infection develops in the air passages.  This means that aside from the virus, the airways also get infected by bacteria.

Chronic bronchitis, on the other hand, is a long term condition.  Patients suffer from cough that comes with excessive mucus.  A patient who has a persistent mucus-producing cough for a good part of the month for three consecutive months is usually diagnosed with chronic bronchitis.  Chronic bronchitis is considered as a kind of “chronic obstructive pulmonary disease” (COPD) just like emphysema.  Factors like allergies, air pollution, infections, and some specific occupations (like textile manufacturing, grain handling, and coal mining) can worsen a particular bronchitis condition.

Chronic Bronchitis Tests and Examinations

In determining the existence of bronchitis, a medical professional listens to the lungs through a stethoscope.  Rales or abnormal lung sounds, and other irregular breathing sounds may be observed.  Other diagnostic procedures include chest x-rays, lung function tests (to get overall patient outlook and other useful diagnostic information), pulse oximetry (to help determine existing blood oxygen levels), and taking of sputum samples (to check for bacterial infections or inflammation signs).

Chronic Bronchitis Treatment

Antibiotics are not necessary for acute bronchitis if it is caused by a virus as the infection will often leave on its own after several days.  For relief, the patient must have sufficient rest, drink lots of fluids, refrain from smoking, and utilize steam or humidifier in the bathroom.  If there is fever, acetaminophen or aspirin may be taken.  However, children must not be given aspirin.

If acute or chronic bronchitis symptoms do not get better, the physician may recommend the use of an inhaler to open up the air passages especially if there is wheezing.  If a secondary bacterial infection is present, the doctor may prescribe some antibiotics although they are usually not recommended nor required.

Persons in the advanced stages of chronic bronchitis have a poor chance of recovery.  The key is in the early recognition of chronic bronchitis symptoms and immediate treatment.  Combined with total abstinence from smoking, proper treatment can drastically improve the chances for a favorable outcome.

Most Common Kidney Failure Symptoms

Systemic failures in the human body are massive events and the consequent serious ailments exhibit symptoms that are difficult to miss. However, seeing symptoms and recognizing them for what they are have, throughout history, spelled the difference between timely treatment and eventual death. The early recognition of kidney failure symptoms has always been a beneficial aspect of managing this disorder, attributed largely to the unique nature of the nephritic system.

When everything is in order, we can literally see the workings, at least externally, of our liquid waste disposal system day in and day out, night after night, in fact several times in the day and – annoyingly—several times at night too. Unlike, say, our circulatory or even our respiratory systems, we can also readily and with glorious relief feel the flow—so to speak—of our nephritic system as it goes about its business hopefully unimpeded. And we can smell it too, and because some parts of our brains still retain vestiges of the post-lizard development of our keen mammalian olfactory sensing mechanism, it is a given that each of us has our own unique liquid waste product smell, urine to the less finicky, and the smell is not at all that unpleasant.

To the Joe and Jane on the street, recognizing these body-friendly features of the human nephritic system is the first source of data regarding the state of the entire waste liquid disposal works – the condition of the kidneys, the bladder, the urethra and the other sundry parts whose names we don’t really bother to know unless something goes wrong with them. Because the system is vital – literally life-giving – failure of any part is instantly on screen.

Consider the kidney failure symptoms that Joe and Jane can immediately recognize: First, because we see it work per schedule 24/7 when nothing is wrong, we immediately sense trouble when the disposal schedule alters. When we urinate too often, or too infrequently when we haven’t changed our life style or our normal routine, there is a failure there somewhere. Symptoms of kidney failure begin to emerge. And since we look at our urine as a matter of course before we flush it down to where it should be, we know that what we are seeing now is a urine of a different color, or no color whatsoever—again when we haven’t done any alteration to our normal days and nights. There, too, is something not working well. Second, the usual feeling of tremendous relief when the flow is good and fine will instantly be replaced by horror when there occurs pain with the flow, or no flow and all pain. You know the systemic failure has begun.

Finally, and one doesn’t need an expert to tell you this, when it smells different, harsher and unfamiliar and somehow alien, kidney failure symptoms cannot be any clearer: kidney failure is well on its way. As soon as one comes face to face with kidney failure symptoms, it’s time to see the doctor—unless, and that’s a relief, one has already done it earlier.

The Most Common Dry Cough Causes

The human body, one is not tired of saying, is a wonderful machine. With silent efficiency it takes its wakeful post as a tireless watchman, looking after your welfare, leaving all avenues of communication open, employing all modes of contact with your body’s distant parts and allowing you to go about your business when everything runs smoothly. However, at the first sign of trouble, –any and all kinds of trouble, and there are lots – it lets go with an amazing arsenal of warning signals to inform you, first that something is not going right, second, points to where the trouble is and then directs you to take the necessary steps to save your skin while he delivers the first defensive blows or makes the initial vital repairs.  There are clear indications for dry cough causes, but are you listening?

Take chronic dry coughs for instance. Dry cough causes are relatively simple matters to trace. Backtracking a little, the body’s primary warning signal that something is wrong is pain. Depending on the nature of the stimuli, the body’s pain signals will tell you instantly where the intruder is, and informs you about the seriousness of the intrusion. On this basis, the mind—that is, you—react, first reflexively away from danger which saves you precious seconds, and then defensively, this time involving your conscious self, enabling you to make a decision: flee or fight. The beauty about the pain warning is that it usually is quite precise. It has a set of trauma warnings that you can readily decipher, and thus recognize what happened generally so you can react properly. So you know when it is a scratch pain (Ignorable), a bump pain (ouch! and move away), a blow pain or a wound pain, very serious intrusions delivering very clear signals for you to do something fast because your survival mechanism is kicking in and you ignore it at your peril. But a dry cough? Why is it an issue identifying dry cough causes?

Slightly lower than pain in the warning signal hierarchy is the cough. Like pain, it is an autonomic, reflexive mechanism that is triggered by a variety of stimuli, but unlike pain, a cough can be managed consciously by the person who owns the property – it’s your own throat after all. And here is where the problem starts. A reflexive cough, as said, is a signal but only because you have already been made aware that the respiratory system has been compromised—by infection or by foreign body intrusion. You cough when you suffer any of various lung infections, but you also cough when, say, a piece of sour candy didn’t go down well and threatened to enter the larynx rather than the esophagus. So that the cough is the body’s pitching arm, hurling—or attempting to hurl—obstructions out of the upper respiratory passages, the harder the cough, the greater the force expended to get rid of the foreign matter, basically phlegm, which classifies it as a wet cough, or a normal cough, if the suffering could be called normal. Dry cough causes actually are easily pinned down.

A dry cough has its own agenda, and you ignore it at potentially huge cost. The difficulty is that the dry cough is indeed more of a signaler than a pitcher—it hurls nothing out no matter the magnitude of the force involved. It signals that there is foreign matter in your upper breathing apparatus, but a sort of matter that it cannot readily expel – smoke residue, dust, incipient bacterial or viral infections that have not grown large enough to be recognized but no less a peril to your health.  Dry coughs causes generally consist of the insidiously dangerous foreign matter in there, and once the causes are known and the danger is recognized, the dry cough is saying it cannot do it alone. It’s telling you there is an enemy in there and you do the digging out. It’s very serious stuff.

Transformations Weight Loss – Are They for Real?

There are many weight loss testimonials and their stories are really inspirational for those people who are trying to lose weight. But not all weight loss stories are true and some diet and exercise they used may not be applicable to you.

Transformations weight loss advertisements and stories are seen on television and on the internet. More and more companies are developing weight loss program and these usually involves extreme diet and vigorous exercise routines. They promise fast weight loss to people who have already lost hope and have already tried every weight loss diet and exercise there is.

Extreme weight loss can also be in the form of surgery. Gastric bypass surgery is very popular these days and guarantees weight loss in a matter of weeks. Fewer food intakes are the result of Bariatric Surgery and making it smaller. Extreme weight loss is the result of people undergoing gastric bypass surgery and excessive skin sagging can become a problem if exercise is not adapted when losing weight. Skin sagging can also be addressed by tummy tuck procedure.

Tips on weight loss stories can be helpful only if you have the same situation as the one on those stories. Your lifestyle might be different and sudden change in diet might do harm than good for your health. Some of these stories are not realistic and the timeframe they provide is not achievable. Losing weight in a healthy way takes time and patience.

Moreover, closely scrutinize the before and after transformations weight loss pictures that goes along with these weight loss stories and testimonials. A lot of them are digitally enhanced or shapes are altered. It is better to personally see someone who has undergone an effective weight loss program.

With the proliferation of weight loss guide and stories, it is very difficult to determine which ones are helpful and which ones are not. Some companies are cashing on gullible and over-weight people with their weight loss programs.

People you see who have undergone extreme weight loss went through quick weight loss program. But many of them, after going back to their usual eating habit, have regained the weight they have lost and gain more. There are even reality programs seen on television about extreme weight loss that feature overweight participants who would go to extreme measures just to lose weight in just a few episodes. What many of us don’t know is that these are pre-taped programs which were done several months in the making and not really about quick and extreme weight loss programs. These amazing transformations are usually done with the guidance of experts such as nutritionists, doctors and physical trainers. Each participant are properly motivated and the big pot prize for the one who lose weight the most is already enough motivation to go through extreme weight loss.

What these extreme weight loss programs don’t teach is patience in losing weight. Being healthy is a lifetime process and cannot be achieved through short cut methods. Always read about and do research on transformations weight loss testimonials and do not easily believe in advice they are giving. Be sure that your body will not be abused if you want to lose weight and always seek expert’s advice.

Parkinsons Symptoms – Detecting Early and Advance Stages

Parkinson’s disease is a motor system disorder. It is a slow progressing disease of the nervous system and studies show that higher percentages of men are affected by this disease than women. The cause of Parkinson’s disease is still unknown but it is linked to family genes and environmental factors. Aside from genetics, other factors that are associated with Parkinson’s disease are age, head trauma, stress, diet and way of living.

Most noticeable symptoms are shaking of the limbs or tremors and difficulty in doing simple movements and activities. Other Parkinsons symptoms are difficulty talking, difficulty in swallowing and in effect drooling or excessive salivating and imbalance.

Conducting medical history and neurological test are just some of the ways to diagnose if a person has Parkinson’s disease. Usually it is very difficult to accurately diagnose it and would require many tests before concluding that a person has Parkinson’s disease.

Parkinsons symptoms such as excessive shaking and tremors are usually in the advance stage of the disease. Even depressions and emotional imbalance are being linked to Parkinson’s disease. It is very rare that you can see symptoms during childhood. As the disease progresses there is more difficulty in movement because limbs are becoming rigid.

Tremors and shaking usually starts in the limbs and as it progresses, other parts of the body will also start to shake and become uncontrollable. Non-movement symptoms can be pain, soreness, depression and even constipation. Severe tremor is experienced especially if the patient is in great stress or anxious.

People who are suffering from these symptoms have difficulty performing their daily activities. Daily living becomes more difficult for them and they usually need the help of another person to be able to cope up as their disease progresses. Difficulty in speaking is another symptom. Speech exercises can be done to help lessen the problem in speaking.

Parkinson symptoms vary from one person to another though. Some may not experience the shaking and the tremors while others experience stiffness instead. Some symptoms are very mild and hard to detect and you would not know that you already have this neurological degenerative disease. Doctors might misdiagnose the symptoms the patient is experiencing and associate it with another disease.

Deep Brain Stimulation is a procedure that helps control these symptoms. Electrodes are implanted to the patient’s brain and this will help them to make a more coordinated movement and shaking and tremors are lessened.

Symptoms get worse as each day passes. Aside from medications prescribed to control these symptoms, additional treatments and therapies such as speech, occupational and physiotherapy are needed and the person who has Parkinson’s disease will very much benefit from these. It will also decrease the stress and depression they are already experiencing. Exercise and balanced diet also helps and being active during the early stage of the disease may reduce the progressing of the disease.

If you are experiencing Parkinsons symptoms, it is best to undergo tests the earliest possible. It is better to work closely with your doctor to be able to get the needed information regarding Parkinson’s disease. There is no cure as of the moment and medications are there only to decrease the symptoms and to help you cope with your everyday life.

Types of Lung Infection Symptoms

Lung infection can be very dangerous and could have lethal results. Lung infection is especially deadly if the person afflicted with it is asthmatic. This could potentially lead to total lung failure and subsequently death. This is the reason why it is important to detect lung infection symptoms early. By detecting the symptoms early, the medical treatment can prevent the infection from getting worse. If left unchecked, lung infection can damage the patient’s lungs permanently or worse it could even be fatal.

It is quite difficult to diagnose lung infections due to the fact that there are so many types of infections that can affect the lungs. It is necessary to thoroughly analyze the symptoms of lung infection to accurately diagnose a patient. If the doctor makes a mistake on the diagnosis then wrong medical treatment can have adverse effects on the patient. To prevent this from happening, the doctor must be well versed on the various lung infection symptoms. It is recommended to seek medical help from a doctor that specializes on pulmonology to maximize the chances of recovery.

Most lung infection symptoms are caused by pneumonia. Pneumonia is the inflammation of the lungs that is caused by infection. There are several causes of infection but arguably the most common causes are viruses and bacteria. The inflammation of the lungs can lead to difficulty in breathing and the over creation of mucus due to the reaction of the immune system. Pneumonia could be deadly if it is left untreated. Fortunately, antibiotics are quite effective in curing a patient that is suffering from pneumonia.

Pneumonia can be caused by other stimuli like: fungi, parasites and other foreign parasitic life forms. However, these cases are incredibly rare; more often than not, only people who have weakened immune systems get affected by these foreign life forms. Even though curing pneumonia is easy, a lot of people suffer from it and there are some who even die because they misjudge the symptoms and think that they merely have a bad cold. This is why it is so important to be informed about the different symptoms that lung infections can have.

Most people never visit the library anymore but it is still important to read about medical information since it has the potential to save your life and those who are around you. Those who don’t want to drive to their local library can just order interesting medical books online to increase their knowledge about common diseases. In fact, you don’t even have to purchase anything since you can even access detailed information about common diseases on the internet. Learning the first aid treatments to common illnesses can significantly help you when an emergency arises.

There are even websites that are run by various medical institutes that provide online consultations. Some of these websites charge a small fee but there are a few websites that have free services. Medical forums are also great places to get medical information and if you are lucky, you might even find a doctor who can provide you with useful information.

Reasons for Upper Stomach Pain

Upper stomach pain can be caused by a large variety of illnesses, which is why it is so hard to diagnose what illness you have based on this symptom alone. Since the cause of upper stomach pain can range from benign to severely life threatening, it is hard to decide when to seek for medical attention. There are some people that go to the doctor only to find out that they have indigestion. There are those unfortunate people who ignored their upper stomach pain while thinking that it was just gas and ended up paying dearly for their nonchalance. The best way to avoid these unfortunate possibilities is to be armed with information.

It is no longer difficult to get access to medical information nowadays thanks to websites that offer medical information for free. If you start feeling minor upper stomach pain then it would be was to check these websites so that you can get an amateur diagnosis. However, if the pain is too much to bear then it is still recommended to go to seek medical attention immediately. It is better to go to the hospital and find out that you have gas than to ignore your symptoms and risk getting worse.

Even if you are not feeling any stomach pain now, it would be wise to check the information regarding stomach pain so that you can be ready when the time comes. One of the most common reasons for stomach pain is appendicitis. This disorder can only be cured by an operation in which the appendix is removed. If left untreated, the appendix of the patient may burst and this could lead to a lot of complications including death. This is exactly the reason why it is so necessary to be informed of the potential causes of something as simple as stomach pain.

The internet may be a convenient source of information but it is not wise to solely rely on it. In fact, there is a lot of false information that can be found in the internet. If a person should believe these false statements then it could lead to rash actions that can worsen the patient’s condition. Doctors are still the best source of medical information. It is best to get a monthly check up and ask your doctor about the various symptoms to watch out for. Of course the internet is still a good way to get supplemental information especially since it is so accessible.

Having a couple of medical books handy can also be quite helpful. In fact, having accurate medical information can potentially save lives. Be sure to visit your local book store and see if there are any medical books that civilians could use. Even though you have a lot of medical information, it is still recommended to seek medical attention as soon as you realize that something has gone wrong. You can always apply first aid using the information you have gathered and that can buy you enough time to reach the hospital safely.

How to Lower Blood Pressure Fast

High blood pressure can have severe repercussions if it is left unchecked, which is why it is important to lower blood pressure fast. After the age of 18, the probability of getting high blood pressure drastically increases. It is recommended to have your blood pressure checked at least twice a week once you reach this age. The reason behind this is the fact that high blood pressure won’t show its symptoms until it is too late. The good news is that it takes years before high blood pressure takes its toll on the body. However, this doesn’t mean that you can just ignore this illness since if you don’t lower blood pressure fast then the damage of having high blood pressure can become irreversible.

The normal blood pressure range is just below 120/80, any higher and you are already at the initial stages of high blood pressure. This is a cause for great concern but you can still live a long and healthy life if it is treated properly. Unfortunately, there is no miracle drug that cures high blood pressure. Although there are drugs that can help lower blood pressure fast, the effects are only temporary. It is also not wise to always rely on drugs to keep your blood pressure down since these drugs have awful side effects that might even be considered worse than the disease itself. The best way to lower your blood pressure without relying on dangerous drugs is to live a healthy lifestyle. Regrettably, most people find this shift in lifestyle too hard to make and end up dying early. Drinking and smoking may provide you with temporary pleasure but the damage these vices can do to someone who has high blood pressure is just not worth it.

Aside from avoiding alcohol and cigarettes, there are also other ways to keep your blood pressure down. One surefire way to lower blood pressure fast is to relax. Stress can increase a person’s blood pressure since it triggers the release of adrenaline. Adrenaline is harmless in small doses but constant stress can inflict severe damage to your body and it is necessary to relax every once in a while. This can be done by avoiding frustrating work and keeping a positive attitude. You can also get massages and visit spas to make sure that your body gets its well-deserved rest every once in a while.

Eating a balanced diet and exercising may have been said a billion times before but only because it is truly effective. Avoiding salty and fatty foods is one of the best ways to keep your blood pressure down. It is recommended to develop the habit of looking for the food’s content before eating it. Even a supposedly healthy product may have extra sodium or fat that goes unnoticed. Exercise is always a great way to keep your body in working condition. More often than not, high blood pressure is caused by the lack of exercise. And doing some workout even twice a week may solve your problem with blood pressure altogether.

Common Hep C Symptoms

Hepatitis C is one of those diseases that are hard to learn about not unless you conduct the right test to the right patient at the right time. This kind of disease is an asymptomatic disease. Hep C symptoms do not show up unless it is already in the more severe and complicated stage. It becomes asymptomatic because it does not show noticeable symptoms that are usually incorporated with hepatitis C. Like in all diseases, prevention is always better than cure that is why this disease of the liver needs to be prevented before it becomes difficult to cure.

Hep C symptoms in the acute stage are rather vague, and if they do show up, they can be easily mistaken as signs and symptoms of other illnesses. These symptoms can be easily thought of as symptoms for a common flu so people usually ignore them not knowing that they have hepatitis C without their knowledge.

Some Hepatitis C symptoms include itching, jaundice, fatigue, decreased appetite and other flu-like symptoms. There was even a practice in the past to not treat some patients in the acute stage to see whether hep c patients in the chronic stage will come out successfully, however, they found out that it is better to treat patient in the acute stage as they have a 90 percent success rate to being well.

In the chronic infection, hep C symptoms vary from one person to another; being asymptomatic is often discovered by accident, through usual check up, making it even difficult to treat because patients do not know whether they have hepatitis C not unless a medical examination is done. Chronic hepatitis C means that you are already infected with the virus for six months time, while acute hepatitis C means that you are a new carrier and had only been infected with the hepatitis C virus recently.

Urine that has dark color is another symptom of hepatitis C, and so are joints and belly pain. Hepatitis C has the tendency to damage the liver of a person infected with the virus very slowly. And, because the symptoms are not very evident severe liver damage may occur and even scarring, which is termed as cirrhosis.

Once cirrhosis occurs, symptoms are more prominent like palms that are red because of the swelling of the blood vessels. Other parts of the body will also swell, like the legs, the feet and the belly. The area in your face or shoulders or chest can have tiny red spots, which are clusters of blood vessels. Bleeding in the digestive tract also occurs in cirrhosis due to enlarged veins. Vericeal bleeding, bleeding in the digestive tract is a rather serious matter even if you have not encountered this symptom before. Encepalophaty will also occur, damage in the nervous system and the brain, this can cause concentration and memory problems and confusion in a patient. Always remember that patients should not wait for hep c symptoms to occur before they consult their doctor.

X Ray Technician Salary | X-Ray Technician Pay

The X ray technician salary is quite decent as compared to all other related professions in the field of health care. Ever since there has been an increase in hospitals in the usage of medical equipment the demand has risen sharply. Apart from the base salary these professionals are also given lots of fringe benefits. According to a survey the average yearly X-ray technician pay is between $36,000 and $75,000 in the United States of America. The salary further depends on a few more factors that help determine the pay of the individual like education, experience, expertise and location.

The X ray technician salary annually, according to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics was $53,230 in May 2008. If we calculate the median annualy for this profession it is at $52,210 while the middle 50% ranged between $42,710 and $63,010. Those that were receiving the highest salary of an x ray technician were earning more than $74,970 while those professionals earning the least were given $35,100 or less.

Other than that, the salary varied depending on the hourly rate. if we calculate the X ray technician salary at an hourly rate we get $25.59 for each hour. Other determinants include his or her work experience. The salary increases with the number of years the professional has of work experience. A survey was conducted by Payscale.com in April 2010; the hourly rate was between $10.28 and $18.10 for those professionals who had less than a year’s experience. The salary for those who had a work experience between five to nine years had an hourly salary of $17.13 to $22.12. For those professionals who had been working for more than twenty years, the hourly rate was between $20 and $28.73.

Apart from the above mentioned factors, the X ray technician salary also varies depending on the industry in which one is working. Those professionals who work in diagnostic and medical laboratories earn the highest at around $56,260 each year. Those professionals working in outpatient care centers were receiving the lowest salary. Finally another factor of an X ray technician pay is the location where he or she is employed. General rule of thumb is that major high populated cities like New York and in California are where you will see the highest salaries. There are also rare instances where there are only a few hospitals over a large area making the demand higher and with it the pay.

Remember, you should never set your mind on a career based solely on it’s potential pay. If you have no passion for it, then chances are you won’t be happy with it.

Common Enlarged Spleen Symptoms

The spleen is responsible in protecting the body from infection by filtering the blood and removing old and damaged cells in the body. It is plays a major role in the immune system of the body. A damaged spleen requires serious medical attention because if not treated immediately, it can cause excessive internal bleeding than can lead to death.

There are also many causes of spleen injury. It can be due to accidents, contact sports, or when the body is fighting an illness, the spleen usually enlarges to help in fighting the infection thus making the organ more prone to injury. The spleen is located just below the diaphragm. As it enlarges, it can press up against the diaphragm, which results to irritation thus the pain started.

An enlarged spleen or splenomegaly is a disease that occurs when the spleen becomes overactive. It abnormally enlarged and begins filtering out not only the bad cells but also the good blood cells. Injured enlarged spleen symptoms are usually rare; however, the symptoms of an underlying disease are often the reason why a patient seeks medical care. These symptoms may include fatigue, weight loss, frequent infections, easy bleeding, jaundice and anemia.

The most significant damaged enlarged spleen symptoms are:

• Localized pain in the upper left stomach. The area around the upper left abdomen can also feel tender. Stomach pain may occur when the enlarged spleen continues to grow and the ribcage can no longer protect it thus causing injury to the organ. There can also be abdominal bleeding and distention or bloating, pain at the back and shoulder, and signs of shock depending on the damage the spleen suffered from the injury. Signs of shock include weakness, shortness of breath, and cool, clammy and sweaty skin.

• Localized back pain more particularly if the person has an injury on the left side of the body.

• Swelling on the left hand side of the lower back can be due to possible spleen rupture. This area can also be bruised and tender to the touch.

• Shoulder pain on the left side may also occur.

• Chest pain due to splenic rupture. Bruising may also occur over the area and it will hurt when touched.

• Breathing difficulty may experience by some patient due to stress on the lungs from an injury to the ribcage.

• An enlarged spleen also can push toward the stomach and cause anorexia (loss of appetite) or the patient can feel early fullness when eating or unable to eat large meals.

• Frequent hiccups.

• A rupture spleen can caused high blood pressure symptoms like dizziness, fainting, fatigue or confusion. Patient with splenic rupture may also suffer from blurred vision as well as nausea and vomiting.

If you experience damaged enlarged spleen symptoms as mentioned above, call your physician immediately. Blood tests, ultrasound, x-ray, or computerized tomography (CT) scan can be done to confirm the cause of the painful spleen. Treatment for an enlarged spleen is usually directed at the underlying medical condition that resulted in the splenomegaly. Depending on the underlying problem, treatments can be given through antibiotics, chemotherapy, radiation or surgery.

Common Signs Of Sinus Infection

When the sinuses and the mucous membrane of the nasal passages are inflamed, it is called sinus infection or sinusitis. It can be caused by bacteria (acute), fungi (chronic) or a virus. It is a common infection can manifest a wide range of signs and symptoms depending on which part of the sinuses is affected. In the United States alone, there are more than 29 million adults who were diagnosed to have sinusitis in 2009.

Sinusitis is classified as acute or the sudden onset of the illness, and chronic which is the most common type of this infection. Bacterial sinusitis typically lasts more than a week and usually happens more than twice a year. Fungal or recurring sinusitis lasts longer but not longer than three weeks and typically takes place at least five times a year.

Here are some common the signs of a sinus infection.

1. Nasal obstruction especially at night.

2. Postnasal drip. It can be clear to greenish-yellow in color.

3. Sore throat

4. Pain around the eyes, at one nasal area, or across the cheekbones.

5. Headache at the temple, at the forehead, and on top of the head and the pain gets intense when bending over or quick moving of head.

6. Pressure or pain worsening when coughing or bending.

7. Fever

8. Vision syndrome or problem with vision if the pressure reaches the brain

9. Bad breath

10. Toothache or increased tooth sensitivity

11. Fatigue

12. Poor sense of smell and taste.

13. Ear pain if the infection spread to inner ears.

Simple nasal congestion with fever may indicate colds but once it accompanied with facial pain, headaches and other signs of sinus infections listed above and it lasts for several days, it may be a sign of sinus infection already. It can be treated easily; but when left untreated, it can lead to more severe medical problems. For example, an ethmoid sinusitis can cause infection of the eye socket. This may result to the swelling of the eyelid. Vision changes may occur and the infected person may lose the ability to move his eyes that may result to permanent blindness.

Among the immediate home remedies that can be done once you felt signs of sinus infection.

1. Drink plenty of water to keep hydrated.

2. Inhale steam for about 10 minutes for at least 3 times a day.

3. Take some over-the-counter expectorant drugs to help expel the mucus from the respiratory passages or decongestants to lessen airway obstruction.

4. Take some pain medication to relieve pain and reduce inflammation.

Self-medication can alleviate the pain for a while but you always have to remember that drugs always have side effects. It is still best to see your doctor and have your condition assess. Sinus surgery is another option for serious sinus infection that can no longer be treated by therapy and drugs. Over all, sinus infection does recur and can develop other complications. Hence, the best remedy for sinus infection is avoiding to be exposed to its causing agents.

Diet Coke Coupons – How Many?

Coca-Cola is not only one of the biggest companies worldwide but also one of the most popular soda brands in the world. Coca-cola thought of creating a concept of reduced-calorie soda in the 60’s when American women become more conscious with their diet. Diet Coke was first called “Tab”. The company changed the name to diet Coke when calorie-free drinks became even more popular in the 80’s and diet Coke coupons became a craze.

Coca-cola made its products more accessible to people by creating coupons and it pioneers the industry of doing such. These not only generated sales but also created awareness and alternatives to those who are in into having their favorite consumer product for free or just for less the cost. Diet Coke coupons, for example, can be found everywhere. It can be from Coca-Cola company website, from websites that specializes in giving out coupons, from grocery stores or to your local newspapers and magazines. The aggressive advertisement makes the product available in every household. The coupon campaign of Coca-Cola encourages the consumers to patronize their products more. It gives benefits to their loyal buyers and something to rouse the curiosity of their prospective consumers.

Today, there are lots of studies suggesting the effect(s) of low or no-calorie sodas. Although, there is still no concrete evidence that drinking beverages with aspartame is the main cause of some medical conditions, it can be however the trigger. Aspartame is a non-caloric artificial sweeter that is used in many diet sodas.

Many anti-aspartame activists claim that addiction to beverages containing aspartame causes irrational behavior. A government diseases prevention agency sited chronic fatigue syndrome as one of medical conditions that can be aggravated by foods or drinks that contain artificial sweeter like aspartame. Epilepsy and multiple sclerosis are other medical conditions that were said to be triggered by aspartame consumption. There were also studies, which established that food taste enhancers like aspartame doesn’t really aid in losing weight like what diet soda regular drinkers believe. Accordingly, people who consume diet food and drinks crave for more and get hungry easily.

On the other hand, in a study presented to the American Stroke Association’s International Stroke Conference, it indicated that people who drank diet soda every day have a high percentage of risk of vascular disease like stroke and heart attack compared to those who don’t. However, the researchers doesn’t suggest to consumers to avoid diet soda. Other medical researchers argued that diet soda can be a contributory factor for cardiovascular diseases if the person frequently drank low-calorie sodas together with other unhealthy foods. Another study found that diet soda consumption was linked to an increased risk of metabolic syndrome, which is also a risk factor for heart problems or stroke. However, a director of a US-based stroke institute said a person cannot just give up diet soda unless that person has a lot of risk factors for stroke or heart disease. He suggested consuming in moderation instead.

There is still a need for more studies before it can be proven that diet soda can cause heart diseases or other medical issues. For now, diet soda continue to make profit like diet Coke especially diet Coke coupons can now be availed even in social networking sites.

Common Types Of Brain Tumors

Tumor is a uncontrolled and excessive division of cells. It is seen in many tissues of the body due to some or the other reasons. It is also found in the brain. They are called Brain Tumors or simply cancer.

Brain tumors are either benign or malignant. Benign tumors are the ones which are confined to the same organ or a tissue and don’t migrate. Malignant tumors are the ones which migrate from one part of the body to the other through the medium of blood, lymph, bone or they spread directly through the tissues.

Benign Brain Tumors:

There are no cancer cells in the benign brain tumor. They can be easily removed which doesn’t grow back once removed. The tissues lying adjacent to the tumor are not invaded by the tumor cells. They also do not spread to the other part of the body, but they can exert pressure on the other sensitive brain tissue causing serious complications and can therefore be dangerous. The benign tumors can sometimes transform into malignant ones.

Malignant Brain Tumors:

They have cancerous cells present in them. They are more severe than the benign tumors. They grow very quickly and spread to the neighboring tissues easily. Sometimes the cancer cells separate themselves from the brain tissue and spread to other parts of the brain or to the spinal cord or sometimes to the other body parts. This spreading of the cancerous cells to the other body cells is called metastasis.

Primary and Secondary Brain Tumors:

Primary tumors are the tumors that originate in the tissues of the brain. The secondary tumors are the tumors that originate from other parts of the body thus the tumors which arise in the brain and the ones which arise in some other parts of the body differ from each other.

Types of the Primary Brain Tumors:

The tumors in the brain which originate from the glial cells are called gliomas. They are the most common types of such tumors in the brain. There are five types of gliomas:

  • ·         Brain Stem Glioma
  • ·         Astrocytoma: These tumors arise from the astrocytes. They affect the major part of the brain.
  • ·         Oligodendroglioma: They arise from the fatty tissues that surround the nerves to protect them. It is a rare kind of tumor.
  • ·         Ependymoma
  • ·         Mixed Glioma

Some other types of brain tumors that arise from cells other than the glial cells are:

  • ·         Meningioma: The tumors arises from the meninges which is a mambrane that covers the brain. It is benign and slow growing.
  • ·         Medulloblastoma: It is present in the neuroectoderm, in the cerebellum and arise from the abnormal cells that arise from some abnormal cells that are present in the early life.
  • ·         Craniopharyngioma: It grows near the pituitary gland, which is located at the base of the brain. It doesn’t spread much but the growth affects the adjascent organs.
  • ·         Schwannoma: They develop from schwann cells. It is also known as acoustic neuroma which usually affects adults.

Of course, you need to have an affinity towards two things. Firstly, you need to love working with human tissue and secondly, you need to be willing and able to perform numerous tests on the same. The monotony of this job is what makes it unappealing to most conventional thinkers. However, for all the curious George’s alike, this is quite an avenue. All About Yttrium

It is a chemical element having symbol Y and its atomic number is 39. It is silver metallic element and it is a rare earth element. It is included under a group of lanthanides. Its only isotope Y 89 is naturally occurring. It was discovered by the Swedish scientist named Carl Axel Arrhenius. It is mostly used in making the phosphors which are used in the cathode ray tube found in the television. It is also used in the other modalities like producing electrodes, electrolytes, lasers, and superconductors. It has also been found to be useful in medical field.

Yttrium is soft, lustrous; silver colored and is highly crystalline. It is present in the fifth period in the periodic table and is the first d block element of the fifth period. Yttrium is stable when present in the air temperature, though when finely divided it emits flames and it ignites at temperature exceeding 400 degree Celsius. In stable form it reacts with the oxygen and form a protective covering of yttrium oxide.

It never occurs in the nature in the free form and is found along with the uranium.

The commonest use of Yttrium is oxide yttria having formula Y2O3. It is used in making red phosphorus which is used in making color television picture tubes. Is used as a component of various alloys of aluminum and magnesium. By adding it in the alloys it increases the strength of these alloys. It is also added to cast iron to increase its durability.  Its alloy with chromium has a property of heat resistance contrary to the property of metals which generally are good conductors of heat. Its oxide is used in glasses because of its property of heat and shock resistance and it is also used in the camera lenses. It is also used in making superconductors. Superconductors are the ones which conduct electricity without loss of energy.

Yttrium is generally found in house hold equipments like the televisions, lamps, glasses. As it is rarely found in the free form, it is found in two different types of ores. Since it is used as a catalyst and used to polish the glasses, its use is increasing day by day. It proves dangerous in the working environment as it can be inhaled and cause different health issues. It can cause lung embolisms, when the exposure to the gases is for a long time. It can also lead to the development of cancer of lungs as it is inhaled for a long time. When it accumulates in the body, it can lead to complications related to the liver.

Yttrium can enter the environment by dumping from the industries and by throwing away electronic devices. It gradually saturates in the soil and then mixes with the soils which will lead to its increase in concentration in the humans, animals and soil particles. When entered the water it can cause problems to the aquatic animals causing damage to cell membranes and to the nervous and reproductive systems.
